SYDNEY steps through the door of her apartment, dropping her bags with a soft thud. She exhales deeply, relieved to be back in her space after the busy days at the lake house. Cleo is already at her feet, winding around her ankles and purring loudly. She looks plump and it makes her laugh, mentally taking note to thank her neighbor for feeding her while she's been gone.
"Miss me, Cleo?" she murmurs, reaching down to scratch behind the cat's ears before straightening up. She kicks her shoes off, nudging her suitcase out of the way as she heads down the short hallway into her bedroom, deciding to leave the unpacking for later. Her suitcase lands with a careless thud next to her bed where it will probably stay for the next week.
In the kitchen, she opens her phone and scrolls through the usual takeout apps, settling on Thai food—her go-to when she's too tired to even think about cooking. Pad Thai and some spring rolls. Simple, but comforting.
As she waits for the delivery, she slips into her comfiest clothes—an old oversized hoodie and soft sweats—relishing the feeling of being back in her apartment, far removed from the noise and energy of the lake house. There, it was non-stop talking and laughing, but here, the quiet wraps around her like a blanket.
The doorbell rings, and Sydney grabs the takeout bag with a grateful smile to the delivery driver before heading to the couch. Setting the food on the coffee table, she grabs the remote and flicks through the channels, landing on a Suits marathon. Perfect background noise for a night in.
She doesn't bother unpacking, her suitcase sitting untouched in the bedroom. Tonight is about relaxing and letting herself sink into the comforting routine of home. She pulls out the warm container of Pad Thai, digging in as Cleo hops up beside her, curling into her side with a soft meow.
