“So, Mr. Kim is playing Doctor Doctor now. Interesting,” Annie said with a sharp, sarcastic tone.
Hana pulled her hand away from Taehyung’s cheek, looking worried. “Annie, he—”
“I’m not talking to you, Dr. Lee Hana,” Annie cut in sharply, her eyes fixed on Taehyung.
Taehyung stood frozen, unable to turn around.
“Three years,” Annie said, her voice quivering with anger. “You’ve been my worst nightmare, Kim Taehyung.” When Taehyung finally faced her, he looked up into her tear-filled eyes.
He licked his lips.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered, his voice barely audible.
Annie’s eyes burned with fury. “And you think that ‘sorry’ will fix everything? I was ready to kill myself with my kids because of you. Do you really believe your apology can make up for that? Remember this: I will never forgive you. Not in this lifetime.”
As she turned to leave, Taehyung reached out to stop her, but Annie spun around and slapped him hard across the face.
Hana’s hand flew to her mouth, stunned.
“Dare to touch me again, and I’ll rip your hand off,” Annie said, her voice laced with cold fury.
Annie stormed out, her anger radiating with every step. She had overheard Taehyung saying he couldn’t face her for an apology, and it only fueled her rage further.
How dare he claim he couldn’t face her now? This was the same man who had betrayed her, slapped her, locked her away, burnt her chest and even tried to force himself on her. Now, he was acting as though he was too weak to confront her.
“Bullshit,” Annie spat out in disgust as she marched away. Her heart raced with a mix of fury and disbelief, each step echoing her outrage and the pain of past wrongs.
"Annie,” Hana called out, her voice urgent.
Annie stopped in her tracks but didn’t turn around. “Please, listen to me,” Hana pleaded.
Annie hesitated but eventually nodded, signaling Hana to continue.
Hana approached.
“I’m Lee Hana. You already know me. Actually, I love Taehyung—”
“I’m not interested in hearing your love story with him,” Annie cut in, her tone icy.
Hana took a deep breath. “I understand. What he did was unforgivable and deeply traumatic. Your anger is completely valid, but you don’t know the whole story. He was sick at that time. He was suffering from a mental illness.”
“And?” Annie retorted, her voice cracking with emotion.
“Does that make my pain any less? Does it erase what he did to me?” She pulled aside part of her saree to reveal a burn mark on her chest.
“This is what he did to me. And not only that—he slapped me and tried to force himself on me. I was terrified. Death seemed like a better option. I wanted to kill myself.”Tears welled up in Annie’s eyes as she spoke, her pain palpable.
Hana’s expression softened with sympathy. “I understand. Nothing can justify his actions, but he didn’t know what he was doing. He was suffering from amygdala hijack.”Annie looked at her with a mixture of skepticism and curiosity.
Hana took a deep breath and began to explain. “Amygdala hijack refers to a situation where intense emotions like fear and anger overwhelm the brain’s ability to think clearly. The amygdala, which is part of the brain responsible for processing these emotions, can trigger a response that overrides rational thinking. When someone experiences amygdala hijack, their emotional reaction takes over, leading to irrational and aggressive behavior.”She continued,
