I went back home with Marwan..
The drive was anything but silent, while he sat behind the wheel and I in the passenger seat beside him Marwan kept either cursing my 4th uncle, or blaming himself for being so trustful of the elders' ability to manage the crisis in hand without having anyone hurt in the process, since after all, they handled Salwa's affair to a questionable perfection before.
Speaking of Salwa, who also once was a part of our family along with her two sons, she had been the example of a perfect wife for long years, ever so elegant and classy, being the only daughter of the great Merabat family and the future mistress of the Majdan's large household no other woman came remotely close to outshine her massive privileges and her large authority and influence, she ruled the society like if it was her little doll house, she moved every woman to her wishes and whims, and was the mastermind of every conspiracy and the seed of every problem, she was a real b**** in plain words, whose gentle words and perfect mannerisms spared her from any doubt or questioning.
To explain what type of person she was in an example, say if suddenly some lady falls in her radar for any silly reason, like she's prettier or has an enviable husband, there was a long list of reasons but these two ones were the most common pattern, Salwa would subtly throw a remark criticizing that lady at first, then surprisingly within the following days or months this said woman would be stuck in a series of scandals or troubles of any sort that appear out of the blue, the whole society would chew her up, and at this point the virtuous Salwa would either remain silent or ask her women to be the better person and just avoid that woman without harrassing her, with devilish ease this said woman would simply be gone and forgotten, and no one would even remember it was b**** Salwa who made the very first eery comment.
Only I could see behind her mask, you see, because I've been a guest only to the smaller events Salwa picked for me and met only with the people she attentively selected, I spent years being in the carefully schemed backstage where nothing was really happening, I have very rarely been to large public events where the big stage is and where the harassment of those victims and gradual seclusion took place, I hardly met any of those victims, while on Salwa's tea parties and little outings I would simply hear her coated malice comments and realize a new victim is about to be created, while the other ladies in the same tea table who would eventually be later on distracted by the real show would all forget the root of malice was made while they were complimenting a new tea set, this was what made all the difference between me and them, it's how Salwa kept me in check and made sure I see her real face and realize what type of devil my clueless helpless a** would have to deal with the moment I open my little mouth and warn her victims or tell people I was a victim myself of her well plotted bullying.
Unbeknownst to her, the only reason I took whatever she threw at me for as long as I did was because I foolishly still didn't want our toxic relationship to fall out since she was the sister of the man I loved.
The moment I gave up Younes and started treating Salwa like the sh*t she was, she started shaking with genuine fear, you see, because she very lately realized she couldn't destroy the social life of someone who didn't even care to have any social life to begin with, Imagine being a great villain whose superpower is to crush the flesh and bones of someone but your opponent is a ghost.
Anyways, while the couple officially resided in my grandfather's villa, Salwa was an often visitor to the Merabat's villa, or more precisely speaking she pretty much lived between the 2 villas, it was easy to observe her while she's among us but no one could be able to have an eye on her actions once she's back to her family's villa, so for long years, no one knew she kept a lover there and her two sons were his.
Also, no one knows why would she do such a risky thing, in this modern time and age who can lie about the real biological father's identity when it's a matter to be very easily exposed with a simple medical test?
