The next day
"Where's Cal?" Kate asked she made her way into the kitchen, letting out a yawn. "She was up before anyone else this morning, I heard her head outside when it was still dark." Her husband answered, putting on his boots. "I gotta run here in a minute, I'll go find her so I can say "goodbye." Javi told them, taking his duffle bag and opening the door. He walked out to his truck, he opened the door and set his bag inside before beginning to look for Callie. "Hey, Cal! Where you at?!" He called out. "In the barn!" She answered. Javi made his way over, he found her mucking out Storm's stall. He smiled when he saw her, Callie was such a responsible and hardworking kid. "Hey, kiddo. I gotta get back, but I couldn't leave without saying goodbye first." He told her. Callie put down the pitchfork she was using and laid it up against the wall of Storm's stall, then she came over and hugged her uncle tight. "Do you have to leave already?" She asked. "Yeah, unfortunately I do. I have work." Javi replied as Callie let him go. "I understand. Thanks for coming to visit!" She said.
"Yeah, absolutely! I'll be back before you know it, okay?"
"Sounds good."
"Alright, see ya, Cal!"
"Bye, see y..." Callie trailed off when she heard tornado sirens blare around them. She and Javi looked at each other, a storm around this area wasn't as common. "Oh no." Javi said, looking to Callie. "Umm, this is not good! Help me let the horses loose!" Callie shouted. She and Javi sprung into action, they opened all the horse's stalls and sent them running, their hoofbeats echoing through the barn. Once the horses were loose, they ran outside into the raging wind. Callie ran over to the chicken coop and opened an old storm cellar that the coop had been built on top of, she guided all the chicken into it. "Callie! Callie!" She heard her dad yelling for her. She got all the chickens to safety and shut the cellar, then she ran out towards her dad's voice. "Cal, we gotta go! Come on!" Her mom shouted. "We have to get into the cellar now!" Javi exclaimed. She was running as fast as she could, but she could barely see with all the dust in the wind. "I can't see anything!" She yelled out to her family. "It's okay, just follow our voices!" Her dad replied. It was hard to hear them over the howling wind, but she did her best to move towards them. After a few seconds, she felt someone grab her arm. "I gotcha, Cal! Let's go!" Her dad exclaimed, leading her down into the cellar. Once she and everyone else, including the dog, was inside, her dad pulled the doors shut and secured them tightly. They all took a moment to settle down, especially Callie. After everyone seemed calmer, Tyler spoke. "Is everyone okay? No one's hurt?" He questioned. Everyone nodded, they all appeared to be fine. Callie was worried about the animals, the cows were already out in the field, so she was able to have peace of mind knowing that they were already able to run away. The chickens were in another old cellar, so they were safe. She worried the most about the horses, though. Even with the fact that they were free and would stick together as a herd, she was still anxious not knowing how they were doing. "Oh, please, God. Please protect them." She quietly prayed. Her mom pulled Callie closer and her dad held her hand, Javi was sitting in front of her on the floor. As the wind picked up even faster, the doors began to fight against the metal pole holding them in place. They all wondered how long this storm was going to last, because sitting in the dark cellar made minutes feel like hours. Some time passed, the wind died down and the storm appeared to be gone. Tyler released the door and opened them up, there was still a little breeze, but it was clear they were no longer in immediate danger. "It's clear." He said, climbing out of the cellar. His family followed him, they all looked at how much damage had been done. There was items and scrap scattered everywhere, but nothing seemed to be too heavily damaged. Kate let out a sigh of relief, happy to see that things were okay. "We have to find the horses!" Callie shouted, jumping into the truck, which was now caked with dust. "I should go with her. You guys good here?" Tyler asked Kate and Javi. "Yeah, we'll just stay here and start cleaning up." Kate answered. Tyler nodded his head, he gave Kate a quick kiss before walking over to the truck. "Hey, I'm driving! Scoot over." He jokingly told Callie. She rolled her eyes and giggled before moving over, she buckled herself in. "You never let me have any fun." She sarcastically commented. Her dad gave her a look, then he smiled and started the truck. They drove off to the back of the property, searching for the horses. Kate and Javi started picking up garbage and various things the wind had blown around, they were real lucky no severe damage was done. A couple hours passed, eventually Callie and Tyler had come back with the horses. They put them back in their stalls, then drove back out to check on the cows. The chickens were back in their coop, and most of the debris had been picked up by Javi and Kate. The only thing really damaged was the greenhouse, the plastic had been completely blown away. It became clear that they hadn't been hit by the actual tornado, just the high winds. "Thank God, everything is still standing." Kate said. "A miracle, a miracle indeed." Javi replied, looking around the property. They both noticed that Tyler and Callie hadn't been back for a while, the cows couldn't have gone too far. Kate gave her husband a call, but he didn't answer. Then she called Callie, who almost always answered her phone. This time, however, it went to voicemail. "Neither of them are answering the phone." Kate told Javi. "Well, let's look for them. We can take my truck." He suggested. Kate nodded and hopped into the passenger seat, Javi jumped inside and started the truck. They buckled themselves in and headed the direction where Callie and Tyler were last seen.
