Hundreds of Acres

"Ugh! Come on!" Tyler complained, clearly struggling with something. "Dad, that lug nut isn't going to budge. You've been trying for 20 minutes, let's just wait for mom and uncle Javi to find us." Callie told him, leaning up against the truck, watching him. He continued to struggle to get the lug nut loose, but the lug wrench wasn't doing a thing. Her dad tried again, but he lost his grip on the wrench and it flew out of his hands. He sat there for a moment, contemplating, then he stood up. "Yeah, that's not coming off with this wrench." He concluded. "Could've told you that." Callie replied. While searching for the cows, they had ran over a sharp piece of scrap metal that the storm had blown in. It punctured the tire, forcing them to stop. They had the spare tire ready to go, they just couldn't get the other tire off. "Too bad my phone is dead, or I could just call them." Callie mentioned. Tyler felt his pockets, he didn't have his phone on him. "Mines in the house." He remembered. They both sighed, they would just have to wait for Kate and Javi to find them. Which, might take a while. They were in the middle of nowhere, Kate and Javi could search for hours and still only cover half the property. "We could always walk back." Callie's dad suggested, being sarcastic. Callie glared at him, they would have to walk hundreds of acres in order to get back to the house. "I would rather not." Callie replied. The Owens' Family Ranch was over one thousand acres, it had been passed down to Tyler from his dad. There was no way Callie wanted to walk that far, plus, staying where they were made more sense. They both decided to sit in the grass, just patiently waiting to be found. Suddenly, rain started to fall, and the breeze kicked up a bit. "Ahh, great." Tyler complained, getting up. "Well this makes things ten times better." Callie said, obviously kidding. They climbed into the truck to get out of the rain, hoping it would soon pass. "Let's hope the roof on this old truck of yours can withstand the rain." Callie commented. "Hey! She may be old, but she ain't that old." Her dad defended, a smile on his face. Callie just chuckled, joking around with her dad always made her feel better. They were both quiet for a moment, just listening to the rain. It may be inconvenient, but it was kind of nice once they were under cover. "Do you think mom and uncle Javi are out looking for us yet?" Callie asked. "I'm sure they are, especially with the rain." Her dad answered. Callie nodded, she hoped he was right. She had a lot of faith in her mom and uncle, she just prayed they would find them soon. On the other side of the property, Kate and Javi were searching for them hastily. They had been driving at a slow pace, but picked it up a bit when the rain started to fall. "I don't like this, Javi. We have no idea where they are and this weather is getting worse." Kate sounded a bit panicked. "I'm sure they're fine, Kate. They have the truck, they can get inside if they need to." Javi answered, trying to reassure her. "What if something happened to the truck, or to them?!"
"Kate, it's okay. We're going to find them! Plus, Tyler and Cal are tough, a little rain is nothing to them." He told her. Just as he finished his sentence, a bolt of lightning struck the air, almost on cue. Kate let out a frustrated sigh and looked at him, Javi just cleared his throat. "It appears I spoke too soon, that is more than a little rain." He commented. Kate shook her head, she was really worried now. Back at the old truck, Callie and Tyler looked around them as lightning cracked. "Okay, this is getting a little precarious." Callie said, slightly flinching as thunder boomed. Her dad opened the door and stepped into the rain, the wind was blowing now as well. Callie followed her dad outside, getting pelted with the heavy rain. "Dad, what the hell are you doing?!" She shouted. He didn't give her a response, though. He just looked around and stood in the rain, clearly focused on something else. Callie waited for him, confused. "Something's not right." Her dad said, looking at the sky. Callie started sensing it too, this was no regular storm. "Back in the truck, go!" Her dad yelled. He and Callie quickly jumped back into the truck, buckling their seatbelts. Kate and Javi, on the other side of the property, also sensed the same thing as Callie and Tyler. Kate could see it in the clouds and feel it in the air, she knew something was coming. "There's something big forming out there." Javi stated the obvious. "Yeah, and we're going to be right in the middle of it." Kate replied. Javi stepped on the gas, they had to find Callie and Tyler quickly. The rain turned into hail, and the wind kicked up even faster. Kate rolled down her window and felt the air, it was strong. "Winds are at about 150 miles per hour, I think this thing has touched down!" She exclaimed. "Shit! Which way is it headed?!" Javi questioned. "Northeast!"
"We have to turn around!" He said, slamming on the brakes and whipping the truck around. "Javi, they're still out there! We have to find them!" Kate shouted. "They're a lot safer in that truck than we are in this one! We have to get out of here!"
"But Javi!"
"Kate, we can't! They're going to be fine, but this truck isn't built for this!" He explained, driving back towards the house. Kate started sniffling, Callie and Tyler were in the middle of nowhere, they had no cover or anywhere to go if they needed. Javi was worried, but he had to do what was best for him and Kate's safety. He regretfully kept driving back towards the house, praying that Tyler and Callie would be okay.
