Sometime 20ish Years Ago.

The effects and influence of the full moon are always different each month. And this month, its power started earlier than normal, a whole week early, actually. Whitney had spent the better half of that morning cradling her head from the massive headache that formed. The annoying pangs went on for about an hour before magically disappearing. Whitney missed history because of it. Then she went back to sleep after realizing how much energy that took out of her.

Once the afternoon arrived and settled, Whitney felt far better after getting lunch and then immediately retreating back to her room. By the time the school day was to end, Whitney emerged from her room and beelined to Principal Merlin's office, where he taught Honors Alchemy to the more academically inclined students. Bridget and Ella took most of the honors classes which included this one too.

Whitney liked to greet her friends after class, since they were the only ones she had and vice versa. She had come to Merlin Academy not expecting to make any friends like at her old school within the Dark Forest. Most of the other kids avoided her like the plague. (Out of all the things fairytale creatures chose to be scared of, it was the lycanthrope.)

The wait for class to end wasn't long. After about ten minutes of Whitney picking at her outgrown nails and fixing her burnt orange hair behind a column, the door swung open revealing Ella wheeling a wagon of pink, feather topped cupcakes behind her, as Bridget skipped alongside, bright eyed and pink painted lips smiling, with a tray of the same cupcakes. Whitney licked her lips. She's always excited to try anything Bridget bakes. Before coming to M.A., Whitney never had much of a sweet tooth until she met Bridget.

Bridget enjoyed the sweeter things of life, and that reflected in the way she liked to present herself. And that meant the soft and stereotypical hue of pink that one would assume a princess like herself would choose. Pink dresses, shoes, nails, makeup, pajamas, bed spreads, even goes as far to have pink hair. (She's not a natural bubblegum pink, but only her closest friends knew that.)

Ella on the other hand, gravitated towards the exact opposite of the gendered color spectrum-a comforting baby blue. Where Bridget was kind and mostly soft spoken, Ella held herself with confidence in the blue and pale gold rags she pieced and sewed together into clothes. But she followed the same trends of her best friend-(natural) blue curly hair, nails, and shoes.

So, when Whitney saw their designated hues leave the classroom, the light in her eyes dimmed and then darkened at the two unfamiliar girls behind them-one drowned in bold red and the other in striking blue. And the one in red seemed far too friendly with Bridget. Smiling too much. Looking at her too much.

A dark feeling swelled within Whitney as she lowly growled, fading into the shadows behind the pillars. Whitney followed the quartet through the school as Bridget handed out cupcakes to their undeserving classmates, practically singing and dancing while doing so. Soon, she followed them out into the courtyard, and Whitney hid behind a tree, nearly seething with jealousy. Unconsciously, her nails grew unnaturally long, like claws, as she dragged them along the tree trunk. Whitney balled her fists after noticing and began to come up with a plan.
