"Sure ka bang hindi ikaw 'to?"
Agnes' eyes remained glued to the photograph as she turned back to Maiko, her confusion deepening.
Maiko, clearly frustrated but maintaining her composure, replied for the fifth time, "Yes, Agnes. I'm not her."
Agnes' eyes narrowed as she held the photo up closer to Maiko's face, again. "But you look so much like her! Tignan mo! Sobra kayong magkamuka, nakakatakot shux!"
Maiko sighed, her expression softening as she nodded. "I'm certain. I know it looks like me, but it's really not me, I can't be the girl in this photo."
Agnes' brow furrowed as she scrutinized the image again, Agnes stared at the photograph, then back at Maiko, her mind struggling to reconcile the resemblance between the two. Her gaze darted from Maiko's face to the image in the photo and back again, her confusion deepening with each passing second.
"How can this be?" Agnes muttered, her voice tinged with frustration. "You look exactly like her. Para akong jinojoke time ng mundo sa true lang."
Maiko's brow furrowed with concern as she watched Agnes' reaction. "I swear I'm not her."
"But how is this even possible? I thought—" She trailed off, her voice cracking under the weight of her disbelief.
Agnes' eyes flicked again between Maiko and the photograph, grappling with the surreal similarity. "I've seen you, your features, your expressions. Looking at this picture feels like seeing a reflection of you. But you're saying it's not you?"
Maiko nodded, her tone sincere. "It's really not me, Agnes." She took the photo from Agnes, her fingers brushing against the image as she pointed to the younger version of Colleen.
"I couldn't be her. Look at Ate Colleen, she's so young here." Maiko's voice softened, her brow furrowing in thought. "If this were me, I would have been around 11 years old, maybe younger."
Agnes felt her world tilt, the pieces of the puzzle not fitting together no matter how hard she tried. The resemblance between Maiko and the red-haired girl was almost haunting.
Maiko sighed, "I know it's weird. It freaked me out, too, when I first saw it. But I promise you, I'm not the girl in these pictures."
Maiko rifled through the stack of photographs, pausing on another picture. In this one, Colleen and the red-haired girl were joined by a third person, whose face caught Agnes's attention, causing her to freeze.
"Why? What's wrong?" Maiko asked, her brow furrowed with concern.
Agnes swallowed hard, her eyes locked on the image. "T-that's Ate Malia," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Ate Colleen's wife."
Maiko glanced back at the photo, trying to process the new information. The picture depicted a younger Malia, her smile warm and familiar.
