"Good morning, rise and shine." A hand was slapping my face. The repeated motion did not hurt. It caused me to pull the covers above my head. "It's time to work."

I did not respond. I suddenly felt a blocky fist collide into my head. It smelled of metallic rust. Similar to the one which resided on the butcher knife in the kitchen. I lifted myself into a sitting position. I rubbed my eyes.

"Were you cooking something?"

He shook his head no. I layed back down. He was silent for a moment. Then I heard the rustling of the blankets while I also felt myself being pulled up into standing. The floor was cold, and the gritty feeling beneath my feet informed me that the floors needed sweeping.

I tiptoed to the window. The latch was a bit old but it came open with relative ease. There was a mosquito perched on the glass. I leaned in, putting my finger up to the cold surface; touching the place where the mosquito was.

The glass had a thin layer of moisture on its surface while the beginnings of black mold were gathering around the four corners of the windowpane. It enamated a stifling scent. I took a step back, still tiptoeing to avoid stepping on the dirty floor.
