What if Lloyd was the Jade prince instead of Harumi

Words:

Third Person Limited to Lloyd

----

He wasn't even born when his father was cursed to the underworld. His uncle and father had had a terrible fight leading to the cursing of Garmadon. Wu said it was for the greater good, but no one believed that was true.

"How could you do that? He is the father of my child!" Misako screamed, tears pouring down her face as she gripped her rounded belly, she was days away from giving birth and Garmadon was holding on to whatever goodness he had left to see his child at least once.

"I'm sorry Misako I had to," Wu said, not flinching as the woman pounded her fists against his chest in agony and wanting for her husband. She sank to the floor as tears sprang from her eyes, her wails never stopping.

"I had to..." Wu whispered trying to convince himself of the lies he knew he was telling. Garmadon didn't have to be cursed. Misako knew that. Wu knew that.

He was four when he was left at the steps of an adoption center because his mother was too busy with her work to look after the small child. She left a single loose promise of "I'll be back.' But, even at four years old, Lloyd knew that was a lie.

Lloyd was only five when he heard the news of the coming of the emperor and empress to his orphanage. The empress had suffered her seventh miscarriage. Her body was unable to carry the burden of another one, said her doctors, so adopting a young child would be best for the heir of Ninjago.

Lloyd sat on his bed, like he did every morning, and stared outside the window. He ignored the calls for breakfast downstairs since he knew that even if he tried to make it in time, the starving children would finish all the food.

Lloyd's eyes caught a large carriage pulling up in front of the old building. Flashes from cameras swarmed the vehicle blocking Lloyd's view. Lloyd pulled the window up to peek his head out. He saw knights and guards push the paparazzi out of the way to let the empress and emperor themselves exit the vehicle.

They were adorned in long jade robes that had been ironed and coated with shimmer. He hadn't known that his staring had been caught by the Empress herself as she raised a hand to wave to the boy. Unsure of what to do, Lloyd stuck a small thin hand out to wave back.

"What are you doing!" A voice called from behind him. It was Brad. Lloyd backed away from the window. "Why are you interacting with them? I am going to be their new child."

Lloyd nodded meekly, he hadn't talked since his mother had abandoned him, and he didn't dare try to insult Brad who was much stronger than he was.

"Now get away from there so I can see," Brad shoved Lloyd off the bed and peered his head out of the window to look at the.  royals below, but he was too late. They were already indoors.

"Come, I want you to see me get adopted." Brad grabbed Lloyd's frail arm and dragged him down the stairs to the lobby which was already crowded with a bunch of children. Mrs. Haggled was yelling at them to keep them back.

"Stay back you brats. Don't touch the royals!" She screeched. The children silenced and backed away slowly. Brad ignored her warnings and pushed past the kids, pulling Lloyd up with him. They were in the front lines when the emperor started to speak to the caretaker.

"We have come for a young male child, preferably around four or five, that we can raise to become our heir." He said. Mrs. Haggle nodded, pulling out the children who fit the emperor's description. The emperor turned to his wife who shook her head at the choices.
