"Sam!" Carl yells before I can.
Sam loses his balance and falls off the computers obviously startled by the sound of someone's voice and stares up at the group while sitting on the ground. Carl rushes over and wraps himself around Sam. How those two know each other is still a mystery to me but I have a feeling it has something to do with the way Sammy's eyes clashed with Rick's. Intense. I'd love to know what in the hell is happening.
"I missed you. I missed you so much. Mom said you were dead." Carl sobs. His small voice echoing through the big, pretty much empty room.
"I guess she had a right to think so." Sam says petting Carl's head as the kid pushed his face against Sam's stomach, hugging him tightly.
"Son." Rick speaks moving towards the two.
Son. Son? Sammy is Rick's son? A deputy sheriff's son? He is cops son and he was hanging out with me the whole time? Me? A redneck who had half his life built on something illegal? He's definitely a little crazy. But what is more crazy is how serious Rick sounds. He didn't sound like that when he found Carl and Lori, well I wasn't quite there when they first saw each other in the apocalypse but he bever had that hardness in his tone towards them.
"Son?" I ask before I can shut myself up. I'm usually pretty good at keeping my mouth shut but I can't keep my curiosity down at the moment. It's too damn much. Sam's eyes clash with mine, now he noticed me and now I'm not the only one confused. But I realize that he's not the only one looking at me. My question sounded more like a demand than anything else. "I mean, you never said you had another kid." I shrug my shoulders a little as I stare at Rick.
And he really didn't. Whole time I was with this group, neither Lori nor Rick nor Carl nor Shane didn't mention either his name or the fact of the existence of another child in that family of theirs.
"Not much to tell." Lori speaks, folding her arms over her chest.
Why does she sound so disappointed? Like she just ate shit not found out that her son is alive. I mean, I get it, he got kicked out of college but with how she patronizes Carl this is something else. Like those two don't like him at all and he's a great guy. I know that. He's the kindest soul I have ever met in my pathetic life.
"Mother." Sam says, giving her a small nod.
"Hi, sweetie." Lori pulls on some sort of smile.
"And you're still kicking, huh kid?" Shane scoffs walking over to Sam and giving him a short hug.
"Takes more than bootcamp to take me down." Sam smiles, slapping Shane on the shoulder.
Bootcamp? That's where he was off to? He went to the army. That explains the camouflage, combat boots and the way he got a little glow up, gained some decent muscle. But Sam isn't quite the type to join the army out of nowhere.
"What are you doing here anyway?" Rick asks.
"Samuel was sent here with other soldiers to protect this place, but since it was only us left he actually was a great help to run this place too." Jenner cut in.
"What about that person you were talking to, Vi?" Lori asked.
"Vi, say hello to our guests. Tell them... welcome." Jenner says, looking at the group.
"Hello, guests. Welcome." Sound of a computer voice echoed through the room.
"We're all that's left." Jenner says.
"And we should talk about you letting in some strangers. It's a good thing these are good people, what if it'd be some maniacs? I should be protecting you, doc." Sam speaks looking at Jenner.
