As Elena slowly opened her eyes, the world around her gradually came into focus. The familiar surroundings of the healer’s cottage brought a sense of comfort and confusion. She tried to sit up, her body feeling weak and unfamiliar.
“Elena, take it easy,” Darius’s soothing voice called out. He was at her side in an instant, his strong arms supporting her.
“Darius,” she murmured, her voice raspy. “What happened?”
“You’ve been in a coma for four months,” Darius explained gently, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “We’ve been waiting for you to wake up.”
Elena’s eyes widened in surprise. “Four months? What’s been happening?”
“You were cursed by dark magic,” Darius continued. “Alden, the young mage who joined us, played a crucial role in breaking the curse and helping you wake up.”
Elena turned her head to see Alden standing nearby, a warm smile on his face. “Thank you, Alden,” she said softly, grateful for his help.
Alden nodded, humility in his expression. “It was an honor to help. Your strength played a big part in overcoming the curse.”
Darius helped her stand, his arm around her waist to support her. “Come, let me show you what’s changed.”
They stepped out of the healer’s cottage into the bright afternoon sun. The village of Lupine Ridge buzzed with activity. The villagers were busy fortifying defenses, training warriors, and tending to their daily tasks. Elena noticed the changes immediately; new structures had been built, and the atmosphere was one of determination and resilience.
As they walked through the village, they were greeted by warm smiles and expressions of relief. Marcus and Liana were the first to approach, their faces lighting up at the sight of Elena.
“Elena! You’re awake!” Marcus exclaimed, pulling her into a gentle hug. Liana followed suit, her eyes shimmering with tears of joy.
“We’ve missed you so much,” Liana said, her voice filled with emotion.
Elena smiled, feeling the warmth of their friendship. “I’ve missed you too.”
Darius guided her further into the village, pointing out the various improvements and changes. “We’ve been preparing for the battle against Roderik and Alaric. The villagers have worked tirelessly to strengthen our defenses and ensure our safety.”
Elena noticed the new training grounds, the fortified walls, and the increased number of warriors patrolling the area. “You’ve all done an incredible job,” she said, her heart swelling with pride.
Darius led her to a secluded part of the village where a beautiful, newly-built house stood. “And this,” he said, a hint of excitement in his voice, “is our new home.”
Elena’s breath caught as she took in the sight. The house was a blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. Its wooden exterior was adorned with intricate carvings, and large windows allowed natural light to flood the rooms. The front porch was lined with blooming flowers, creating a welcoming and serene atmosphere.
“Let me show you inside,” Darius said, leading her through the front door.
The interior was just as stunning. The living area was spacious and cozy, with comfortable furniture arranged around a large stone fireplace. The walls were decorated with artwork depicting the village’s history and landscapes. A kitchen, complete with modern appliances and a large dining table, adjoined the living area.
Darius guided her upstairs to the master bedroom. The room was a haven of tranquility, with a large, inviting bed covered in soft linens. French doors opened onto a balcony that overlooked the village and the surrounding forest.
“I wanted this to be a place where we could start fresh, where we could build a future together,” Darius said softly, his eyes filled with love.
Elena felt tears well up in her eyes as she turned to him. “It’s perfect, Darius. Thank you.”
He pulled her into a tender embrace, his arms wrapping around her protectively. “I’m just glad you’re awake and here with us. We’ve all missed you so much.”
They returned to the village square, where the villagers had gathered to celebrate Elena’s recovery. The atmosphere was filled with joy and relief, a stark contrast to the tension that had gripped the village for so long.
As the sun set, casting a golden glow over Lupine Ridge, Elena stood with Darius, Marcus, Liana, and the rest of their friends and allies. The future was uncertain, but in that moment, surrounded by the people she loved, Elena felt a renewed sense of hope and determination.
“We’re stronger together,” Darius said, his voice resolute. “No matter what comes, we’ll face it as a united pack.”
Elena nodded, her heart filled with gratitude and love. “Together.”
The village celebrated late into the night, the sound of laughter and music filling the air. As Elena looked around at the smiling faces, she knew that they were ready for whatever challenges lay ahead. And with Darius by her side, she felt ready to face anything.
