Y/N'S POV
As I entered the kitchen. My mom glanced up at me and scoffed, "Gosh, you're still alive?" her voice was laced with irritation. "Yeah," I muttered softly, struggling to keep myself together.
"I can't wait 'til you go missing," She laughed, taunting my existence. I decided to not respond. I knew it would be pointless. Nothing I could've said or did would change how she views me, her own daughter.
Yet I couldn't get rid of the awful words that slipped out of her mouth. It stabbed my heart and pierced my brain. The memories of witnessing the disappearance of my friend, Griffin Stagg, left me speechless. It's been only 17 days since then, yet ponder about him.
I swallowed my misery and grabbed my backpack, swinging it over my shoulder before leaving the house swiftly. I walked down the sidewalk of Devner, seeing a couple people who attends my school walk in front of me or at the sidewalk across me.
I glanced up into the sky, my mind slipping into deep thoughts again. Why did the police drop the search for Griffin? Why did it have to be him? Is he even alive..?
That last thought chewed onto my sanity for Devner. It sickened me, a sweet boy who was seemingly an outcast just disappeared, out of nowhere. The police didn't even try to look for him. My friend group had it's different reactions, but overall felt horrible. It killed me as well that I couldn't help. There was barely any traces but black ballons.
My inner thoughts came to a stop once my eyes caught onto Billy Showalter, the smarty in the friend group. He seemed to notice me to and warmly smiled at me while waving.
I jogged to him. "Y/n, glad to know you're okay," Billy spoke softly, his comforting words made me smile. "Same here," I responded and we both walked together, side by side into school.
We've arrived to our shared class together, "Do you think we could hangout with the group after school at Grab n' Go?" Billy suggested as we both took our seat. I nodded as I spoke, "Of course, I like being with you guys," I commented, gushing which earned a small chuckle from Billy.
I was guessing our get away to cope with Griffin's disappearance was too hangout a bunch more before another could go missing. Or at least that's how I see it.
The teacher then proceeded to go through a lesson then afterwards, letting us talk with our friends for the last 15 minutes of class. I poked Billy's hand as he was doodling on his paper. He hummed before lifting his head up to me.
