I'm not a very extroverted person. In my line of work, I have to interact with a lot of people, and I'm good at that. But I'm not going to rush out into a crowd to find people to hang out with, or attend big parties surrounded by strangers and be totally comfortable. I can manage it, but it isn't my favorite thing in the world. However, you could also argue that I'm only that comfortable because of Quinn.
Unlike me, Quinn would be a founding member of the Outgoing Mayfly club, if it existed. Back in school, she was constantly dragging me from one party to another, before the pregnancy curtailed that, and I had to admit that it helped get me more comfortable in those settings. Now, when I have to go to a conference or a business luncheon, I can fit in much easier, even with my nerves.
Of course, Quinn was still Quinn, and when she rang the doorbell, she breezed in as soon as the door was open, it was like a bomb had been detonated in the house. "Where are all my bitches?" She yelled as she walked past me. While Harlow was my best and closest friend, Quinn was the favorite of my daughters because she was around a lot more and was so fun to hang out with. So, it was hardly a shock when Gracie and Jashanna gave out a whoop of happiness and came crashing into her.
"Hey Quinn!"
"Quinn!"
Yeah, I think they might like her a little more than me sometimes. Like me, Quinn wasn't the slim college girl that I'd met at 18. But while I got a little bit of a mom bod from childbirth, Quinn developed curves that guys just loved, and she made sure to flaunt them to their full extent. Even now, while I have no idea what she was up to when I called her, she'd shown up in skintight yoga pants that were molded to her thick thighs and ass, and a tight tee shirt that I couldn't help but notice showed off her bust. Honestly, if she was into girls, maybe I would have booted Elliot out earlier, because I had a feeling that she was crazy in bed, and I loved her personality. But nope. She liked men, and sometimes I had to stop her from telling me about her latest weekend sexcapades in way too much detail.
"Come on," I nudged them all in the shoulder. "Let's get the food heated up and we'll talk over dinner."
"Fine!" Quinn said as she released the girls. "But I need the tea on Elliot!"
"And Zee!" Gracie chimed in.
Quinn stopped short. "What's a Zee?"
"The hot Cuban girl that mom met in the rain!" Jashanna told her breathlessly. Yes, they were way too invested in my one night stand.
I stopped short, barely registering that Jashanna had just squealed on me, and yet smiling widely because Jashanna had just called me mom for the first time. I took a step over and hugged her tightly, getting a squeak of surprise out of her. "I love you, Jashanna." I didn't mention her calling me mom, because I wasn't sure she even realized that she'd done it, but it meant a lot.
"I love you too," she whispered. "Mom." I squeezed her even tighter, knowing that she meant it now. Fuck, she just made my day.
"Come on, let's have some food." I straightened up, wiping my eyes as we moved into the kitchen. I knew Quinn was confused by that, but honestly there was so much happening that she was going to have to wait for an explanation for it all. Besides, I had a feeling that Zee was now at the top of topics that she wanted to hear about.
We all loved Asian food, and Thai in particular, so when we ordered take out, we tended to go a little overboard. So, having Quinn join us wasn't an issue, as all it would mean was that we'd have a few less leftovers. The entire time I was heating everything up, Quinn was hovering, no doubt waiting for me to give her a tidbit or two of info, but I was keeping my mouth shut. Normally I would have, but in this case the girls knew all of the news too, and I had a feeling that they'd want to be involved. Hell, Jashanna was one of the biggest pieces of news, so I didn't want to exclude her from that conversation.
