The class was over and the students were all gone. That left Malik with Dr. Foster and Nova in the classroom. It was nice catching up with his old Principal who was always a friend to him back in the day. He was sent to the principal's office a lot, but Dr. Foster was the overall principal, they had grade-level principals who handled issues with students. Not Dr. Foster, he wanted to be involved with everything.
He even once confided in him his conflicted feelings for his best friend. He never told him who, but everyone knew he and November were like peas in a pod.
"What are you doing here?" Dr. Foster asked, looking at Nova, then back to him. "I didn't know you two still...kept in touch."
"So, listen, Dr. Foster, I mean Carter...my girl November was in Atlanta, and that's where I live now. We ran into each other at the club."
"Oh, okay. But why are you here?"
"I thought it would be a good time to hang with my girl again. Make up for old times." He walked over to November and put his arm around her, though she was stiff as a board and unmoving. "I missed my best friend."
"That's right...your friend, the one you..."
"Yes, yes, my man! That was between us." He had to stop the man before he spilled all his secrets. This was, after all, Nova's boss now.
Nova moved away from him, starting to move the chairs. "Well, Malik, I'm sure you want to go see some of your old teachers, a few are still here and- "
"Nope, I came to see you. After the way we left things in your hotel room- "
"Malik!"
"Oh shit, uh...sorry." He shouldn't be running his mouth to Dr. Foster. That was inappropriate. He hoped he did not get her in trouble. Not that they did anything other than kiss and feel each other up.
Looking at Nova, he could tell she was embarrassed. She always looked at the floor when she was embarrassed, playing the shy girl. He already started things off wrong now and she would be mad at him.
"Well...I guess I will leave you two alone...to get...reacquainted," Dr. Foster said, turning to leave.
"Wait Car...Dr. Foster," Nova said quickly. "There is nothing going on with us."
He turned back to them. "If it is, not my business. Nice seeing you again, Malik. Enjoy your visit."
After Dr. Foster left, now he had time alone with Nova.
"Do you have another class or-"
"Why the hell did you come here, Malik? There is nothing for us to say." November was more upset than needed to be, but he knew he could fix things. He had to.
"Don't stand there and tell me that kiss...those kisses meant nothing to you. That you didn't feel anything." He walked over and stopped her from stacking the chairs. "Nov, after all these years, you're still the only girl that will make me fly my Black ass back to St. Louis."
"Your ass isn't black, it's pale yellow."
He grinned at her. "Baby, you ain't get to see my ass."
She laughed and pushed him away. At least she was in a happy mood now.
"When's your next class? I'll stay and talk with them and take pictures and-"
On cue, several teens rushed in, all girls and screaming about him. Nova groaned and held the girls off as they tried to charge him. Word must have gotten out. He did not even feel like a big-time actor but coming back and seeing the kids fawn over him, maybe he was a bigger star than he realized. In the few movies he did with small parts, he was very noticeable.
