The first rays of morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle glow over the room. Tim Bradford woke up before Lucy, his internal clock always a bit too precise. He found himself in an unusual and wonderful position, with Lucy nestled in his arms, her head resting on his chest and her soft breaths creating a rhythmic rise and fall.
For a few blissful minutes, Tim simply lay there, savoring the warmth of her body against his, the softness of her hair, and the serene expression on her face. He could hardly believe this was real—that Lucy Chen, the woman he had admired and loved for so long, was here with him, in his arms. He gently tightened his embrace, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head before carefully slipping out of bed, trying not to wake her.
He dressed quietly and made his way downstairs to the hotel's quaint dining room. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and warm pastries greeted him. He selected an assortment of breakfast items: croissants, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, and, of course, coffee. Balancing the tray, he headed back to their room, anticipation building as he thought about waking Lucy up with a surprise breakfast.
When he opened the door, he found Lucy sitting up in bed, her hair tousled and her expression adorably confused. She looked around the room, clearly trying to piece together the events that had led her here.
"Good morning," Tim said softly, a warm smile spreading across his face as he placed the tray on the bedside table.
Lucy turned to him, relief washing over her features. "Good morning," she replied, her voice still tinged with sleep. "I woke up and you weren't here. For a moment, I thought maybe it was all a dream."
Tim chuckled, sitting down on the edge of the bed and taking her hand. "It's real, Lucy. I'm here, and so are you." He gestured to the tray. "I went to get us breakfast. I thought it might be nice to start the day with something special."
Lucy's face lit up with a smile as she looked at the assortment of food. "This is perfect. Thank you, Tim."
They ate together, sharing bites of croissant and sips of coffee, talking about everything and nothing. The conversation flowed easily, filled with laughter and the occasional touch or glance that spoke volumes. It was as if the events of the previous day had lifted a weight off their shoulders, allowing them to simply be themselves with each other.
As they finished their meal, Lucy leaned back against the pillows, a contented sigh escaping her lips. "So, what do we do now?" she asked, looking at Tim with a mixture of curiosity and hope.
Tim took a deep breath, considering the question. "We take it one step at a time," he said finally. "We go back to the precinct, we talk to our friends, we talk to Grey, we figure out how to make this work in our lives. But most importantly, we stay honest with each other. No more hiding how we feel."
Lucy nodded, a determined look in her eyes. "Agreed. No more hiding." She reached out and took his hand, squeezing it gently. "I don't know what the future holds, but as long as we're together, I know we can handle it."
Tim smiled, leaning in to kiss her softly. "I couldn't agree more."
They spent the rest of the morning in their little haven, talking about their hopes and dreams, sharing stories, and simply enjoying each other's company. As the hours passed, they both felt a growing sense of excitement and anticipation for the journey ahead. Their love, once hidden and unspoken, was now a beacon of hope and possibility. Together, they would face whatever challenges came their way, knowing that as long as they had each other, they had everything they needed.
