Maelor's egg did not hatch in the cradle, he claimed Meraxes when his mother whisked him away to Dragon stone.
Meraxes was a great dragon that lived during the War of Conquest and reign of Aegon I Targaryen, the first king of the Seven Kingdoms. She was sized in the middle, smaller than Balerion, but bigger than Vhagar. Its scales were silver, and her eyes golden.
She was ridden by Queen Rhaenys Targaryen during Aegon's Conquest, alongside King Aegon the Conqueror's Balerion and their sister Queen Visenya's Vhagar. Meraxes was named for one of the gods of Old Valyria.

Sunfyre is known as the most beautiful dragon in House of the Dragon and Fire & Blood. He has a distinctive appearance with golden scales that shine in the sun, pink wings, amber eyes, and orange frills on his neck and body.In the books, he is also called "Sunfyre the Golden" and is said to be a mount fit for a king.

After Dreamfyre died in a dragon pit, a woman named Elissa Farman stole three of her eggs from Rhaena's hatchery on Dragonstone. Elissa then fled to the Free Cities and sold the eggs for money.
