Despite the argument, Tala was staying in Derek's guest bedroom. One little argument didn't change how they had felt about each other for years. They were stuck together, whether they liked it or not.
She found out that the day before she arrived, they had to face the alpha pack upon trying to rescue Derek's betas. They had only briefly seen Deucalion from afar, and the other alphas had barely been seen. But Tala was ready to take them down.
On this day, she would get her chance.
Tala could hear arguing from downstairs–not an uncommon occurrence in the loft. It was Derek and Cora–whom they had found in the vault with Boyd. Tala was happy to see her, given she thought she died in the fire all those years ago.
Tala sighed, making her way down the stairs to see what was going on.
"Are you gonna help me go after them?" Cora asked.
Tala rounded the stairs, watching Cora doing pushups, only for Derek to kick her arm out from under her. Cora snarled, pulling herself to her feet and beginning to throw punches at Derek. He easily caught her hands.
"Come on!" She argued. "Fight back!" She grunted, pulling her arms away from him and looking at him. "I came back for this? I can't believe I got my ass thrown in a vault for three months for you. All those rumors I heard... a powerful new alpha, one of the hales, was building a pack. Do you know how long I waited to hear something like that? Do you have any idea how it felt to find out you were alive?"
Tala chuckled, earning both of the Hales' attention. "I feel you, sister." She descended the stairs, starting towards both of them. "I feel exactly the same way."
Derek rolled his eyes. "Well, I'm sorry to disappoint."
Suddenly an alarm blared, the light flashing a red glow over the room.
"What's that?" Cora asked.
"Trouble," Derek and Tala said at the same time.
The door to the loft slid open and there was a man with bulging muscles, a toothy grin, and red eyes.
Tala smirked, looking at the alpha. It had to be one of them. She immediately extended her claws, allowing her eyes to glow their orange color, and her stripes to appear across her skin. She hissed at the alpha, but before she could go after him, Cora roared, running at him.
"Wait!" Derek called out.
Cora ran at the alpha, who immediately picked her up by the throat slamming her into the ground.
He looked up at Derek. "Ready for a rematch?" So this was Ennis, the alpha that Derek had fought in the hospital.
Tala took her moment, running across the room and stabbing her claws into his side. He howled, throwing her back. Cora launched off of the ground, throwing a punch at his face. He roared, watching Tala get back up in the corner of his vision. Ennis smirked, grabbing Cora by the throat again and throwing her into the wall with as much force as she could.
"No!" Derek yelled, but was quickly distracted by another alpha entering the loft. It was the girl, Kali, with the claws for toenails.
As Derek began to fight off Kali, Tala watched Cora fall to the ground, her eyes shut. She was out cold. But, that meant the alphas would leave her alone–for now.
Tala hissed, running at Ennis and beginning to throw punches. He dodged easily, but so did she when he punched back.
Ennis grabbed her fists after a predictable punch, snarling in her face.
