That night felt like a blur. Or at least to everyone other than Tala.
The kids would all remember that night for the rest of their lives. The night they thought Derek Hale had died.
But Tala knew better. She knew Derek, and she knew the alpha pack. She knew they wouldn't go down that easy.
"I know where they are," Scott had said, busting into the loft.
"The same building as the Argents," Derek said. "We know."
"Cora and I followed the twins," Boyd explained.
Scott's face dropped. "Then they want you to know."
"Or more likely, they don't care," Peter added.
Scott stepped up to the table, making Tala laugh. Derek furrowed his brows at her.
"What?" she asked, still chuckling. "He's funny." The table was silent. "Does nobody else get that? He's so... in charge. So dramatic."
"Always has been," Peter chuckled along with her.
"See you get me, Peter," she laughed. "So is he really not an Alpha?"
"Not yet," Peter answered. They both laughed.
Scott rolled his eyes, looking down at the map on the table.
"What is this?" He asked.
"Isn't it obvious?" Tala answered.
"The schemers are scheming," Peter finished. "Coming up with a coup de main, better known as a pre-emptive strike."
"You're going after them?" Scott asked.
"Tomorrow," Derek answered. "And you're gonna help us." He began to point at the map. "They're one floor above them in the penthouse, right above Allison."
"So, kill them first?" Scott asked. "That's the plan."
"They won't even see it coming," Boyd said.
"Why is the default plan always murder?" Scott asked.
Tala scoffed. "In this world? It's the only thing that works, Scott. We have to get our hands a little bloody sometimes." Tala fidgeted with her nails. "A lot of the time."
Scott's glare went right through Tala. "Can we just try to come up with something that doesn't involve killing everyone?"
"Do you ever get tired of being so blandly moral, huh?" Peter asked. "Not that I disagree with him."
"I do," Cora announced. "Why do we need this kid?"
"This kid helped save your life," Derek answered. "And you know we can't just sit back and wait for them to make the first move."
"You can't beat a pack of alphas," Scott said.
"That's why we're going after Deucalion," Cora snapped. "Just him."
"Cut off the head of the snake, and the body dies," Boyd announced.
"Only this isn't a snake, it's a Hydra," Peter snapped back. "And like Scott said, they're all alphas."
"Deucalion's still the leader," Derek said.
"Let's hope so," Peter said. "Because you know what happened when Hercules cut off one of the heads of the hydra?"
"Two more grew back in its place," Scott said.
"Somebody's been doing their summer reading," Peter grinned.
