"Did you have a boy over last night?" Natalia stiffens up, hearing her grandmother's question as she's chopping up fruit the next morning.

"Uhh...no?" Nat attempts to lie, covering her face in her sheet of golden blonde hair to hide her red face. Georgia approaches the young girl and puts a hand on her hip.

"Spill." She commands, wanting to know.

"Okay fine. It was our new neighbor Miguel. He just moved here and is in my grade. I saw him come home last night and apparently he got picked on at the store. They poured medicine all over him and didn't want his Mom to see so I offered that he could come over to clean himself up before going back home." Natalia rants, putting the knife down and looking at her grandmother. The blonde girl tucks her hair behind her ear, waiting for her grandmother's reaction. Her grandmother doesn't move a muscle while the young girl talks, making her anticipate her reaction even more.

"Natty! You made a friend!" Georgia squeals all of a sudden, pulling the girl into a hug. Georgia hadn't told her granddaughter, but she was anxious about Natalia starting high school as a sophomore in a few weeks. Though Natalia was academically ready for skipping a grade, Georgia couldn't shake the worry about her social life and how she'd handle the transition to being with older students who had already established friendships.

Natalia didn't have trouble making friends so Georgia wasn't worried about that, she was worried about the other students welcoming her. She knew kids could be cruel and it was possible that people would walk all over her. Natalia was somewhat naive and always saw the best in people, which Georgia proudly taught her to do. It was her strength, but it also could be her weakness if she wasn't careful.

"Can't. Breathe." Natalia huffs out, struggling under her grandmother's tight grip. Georgia lets out a quick 'Oh' before releasing her and smoothing out the young girl's blonde hair. Commotion is heard outside and the two look at each other before looking at the front door. Natalia creeps towards the front door and receives a scolding look from her grandmother.

"Natalia May Golding. What have I told you about being nosey?" Georgia crosses her arms disapprovingly. Despite her scolding look, she makes no move to stop the mischievous girl.

"Don't get caught?" Natalia jokes lightheartedly before slithering her way out her front door to get a better listen to the conversation.

"Forget it! I don't do karate anymore, all right? Besides, I need to find a job." It was the voice of the older man, Johnny. Natalia tiptoes around the corner, peeking to see Miguel and Johnny talking. The two stand in front of the complex mailbox. Natalia notices how rough Johnny looks, rougher than normal. It was clear the fight was hard on him. Johnny flails his arms around, clearly annoyed at Miguel's antics and pestering.

"Well, you could open your own karate school." Miguel suggests with hope.

"It's called a dojo." Johnny corrects curtly, his tone sharp.
