Natalia finds herself standing outside the entrance to the Cobra Kai dojo. The sounds of honking and nearby passing cars mix with the summer breeze that brushes past Nat's bare legs. She wears regular black exercise shorts with a light pink plain t-shirt. Her heart races in her chest with a mix of excitement and nerves. Though doubt settled in her gut, making her question if this was the right decision. The voice of her mother echoed in her head, causing her to push the door open and step into the dojo. This was the right decision.
The sound of the jingle of the door opening cause both Johnny and Miguel to freeze. The two stand close together in the middle of the dojo. It was small, with a few mats and some basic equipment. A large American flag is hung up on one wall, and the other having a motto reading 'Strike First, Strike Hard, No Mercy'. Some spare mats were stored laying in the corner next to some cardboard boxes overflowing with trophies.
"Nat! You made it!" Miguel exclaims, a grin spreading across his face when he notices the girl. Johnny looks a lot less enthusiastic than Miguel. His eyes narrow as he takes in her small frame and bright blonde hair. Johnny wears a black karate gi and a black head band, exuding a no-nonsense look about him.
"Who's this?" He asks, his tone skeptical at he points at the girl and looks directly at Miguel, rather than asking Natalia. Nat huffs and crosses her arms over her chest.
"Wow, you don't even recognize your very own neighbor!" Natalia quips, rolling her eyes playfully and shifting her weight onto one hip.
"This is Natalia. She wants to join." Miguel explains, wiping his sweat with his arm off of his forehead. Johnny's eyes scan over the petite blonde once more, lingering a bit longer this time. There's something about her that seems oddly familiar to Johnny. Maybe its the glint in her eye or maybe its the way she holds herself. But whatever it is, its as if he's seen that spark before but he just can't quite place where. A dissatisfied look crosses Johnny's face.
"Karate isn't for girls." He bluntly states, crossing his arms to match Nat's stance. His words are met with a look of defiance from Nat, who raises an eyebrow at him.
"Says who?" Natalia shoots back, her tone challenging. Miguel's eyes dart back and forth between the two, noticing the uncanny resemblance in their stubborn expressions.
"Come on, Sensei. Give her a chance. School is staring back up and those guys...they're making my life hell. They're gonna make hers too." Miguel pleads.
"Not my problem." He replies back gruffly, seemingly unmoved. Natalia smirks, a teasing glint in her eyes.
"Hmm, well when you put it that way, Migs. I think I'm gonna start pretending I don't know you. Save myself the trouble." She says, not missing the perfect opportunity to tease him. Miguel frowns, not catching onto her sarcasm at first. It's only when he looks at her face that is barely able to hold back her smile that he realizes she's only kidding.
