Accidentally in love- A Kate Martin story

Chapter 4

                         Emma's POV

The next morning, I wake up to my alarm blaring and I groan as I turn to turn it off. It's 10am so I should probably get ready for my class later, I get up and walk out to see Jada and Caitlin still passed out on the couch. Quietly, I walk to Gabbie's room to see if she's still awake, I open the door and see her laying down on her bed watching her phone, when she notices me she look up at me and smiles, "Hey Em, how are you feeing?" I give her a frown and say, "Like i've been hit by every car in the world, my head is still pounding. What about you?" She laughs and says, "You're so dramatic, but I feel the same way, but the only thing I have today is practice so I can just chill until then." I let out a groan and say, "I totally forgot about practice today, what time is it again?" She smiles and says, "It starts at 1, don't you have a class today?" I give her a look and say,"Yeah I have one at 12, I'll try to make it to practice after but I'll definitely be late." Gabbie rubs my back and says, "Don't worry about it Em, Bluder will understand if you can't make it today." I give Gabbie a hug and say, "Thanks Gabs, I have to go get ready, I'll see you later." Gabbie pulls away and smiles at me, "Okay, love you." I smile back and say, "I love you more."

After getting ready for the day, I head out of my room and I see Jada and Caitlin awake on the couch, I walk over to them and say, "Hey sleepy heads, how are you guys feeling?" They both let out a sigh and Caitlin says, "Like hell, practice is definitely not going to be fun later." Jada nods her head and says, "Same, my head has been nonstop pounding since I woke up." I give them both a sympathetic smile and say, "There's some Tylenol on my bathroom counter if you guys want to use it." Caitlin examines me and asks, "Where are you going?" I look at her and say, "I have a class soon, I should be able to make to your practice later but I'll be late, I'll see you guys later." They both say bye and I walk out the door.

When I get in my car I look at the time, it's 11:00 so I will have a good hour before class starts and I'm still very tired from last night so I decided to stop at a local coffee shop, I get out of my car and order, when the barista hands me my drink and I turn around and notice Kate sitting in the corner on her phone, I walk over to her and say, "Hey, is this seat taken?" She looks at me and says, "No, you can sit." I smile as I sit down across from her, after some awkward silence I break the tension, "Thank you for taking care of me last night." Kate looks up at me and smiles, "It's not a problem, I guess I'm kinda used to it because Jada and Caitlin are definitely party people." I let out a soft laugh and say, "I actually hate party's, I guess I was just ready to let lose for one night, I definitely would not have gotten that drunk if I remembered I had a class the next day." Kate looks at me and says, "I feel like we got set off on the wrong foot, I get nervous and sometimes bitchy around new people, I'm sorry." I smile at her and say, "Don't worry about it Kate, I get the same way, I'm sorry too." I look at the time and I hold out my hand and say, "I have to go to class, friends?" Kate smiles as she shakes my hand and says,"Friends. I'll see you later, Em." I smile at her and say, "Bye Kate."

Class was rough to say the least, I was exhausted but I told Jada and Caitlin that I would be at practice and I don't want to let them down, I'll just suck it up for an half hour. When I arrive at Carver, I walk in to see the girls doing drills, I walk over to coach Bluder and she says, "Hey Em! Glad you could make it, how was class?" I give her a smile and say, "It was definitely a rough one today but I'll be fine, anything I can help with?" She points to some gatorade water bottles on the bench and says, "Yeah, do you mind filling those up with water? Practice is about to end soon." I give her and smile and say,"Yeah, of course!" I grab the water bottles and head to the water fountain to start filling them, when I get back to the court the girls are in a huddle so I set the water bottles back on the bench and walk into the locker room to wait for Gabbie. When she finally walks in she gives me a hug and says, "Hey, how was class?" I let out a groan and say, "Ugh, it was hell today, my head was pounding like the whole time." Gabbie frowns at me and says, "Em, why didn't you go home?" I look at her and say, "Well I told you all that I was going to be here and I didn't want to let anyone down." I get distracted when the rest of the team walks into the locker room, "Emma! How are you feeling?" Jada says as she hugs me, "The same as this morning, how about you guys?" I say as I look at her and Caitlin, Caitlin speaks up and says, "Yeah same, and having practice didn't help, I'm ready for a nap."

After a few more minutes of talking, the only ones left in the locker room are me, Jada, Gabbie, and Caitlin, Gabbie looks at the time and says, "Are you guys ready to go?" We all nod and we walk out of the locker room, on the way out, we spot Kate still shooting around, I look at all the girls and say, "You guys can leave without me, I'm going to talk to Kate for a little." Gabbie smiles at me and says, "Okay Em, see you at home." I give her a quick smile and I walk over to Kate, "Hey, why are you still here? Practice ended like 30 minutes ago." Kate looks over at me and says, "I don't know, I guess I wanted to get some extra shots up to clear my head." I give her a smile and say, "I'm just about to leave and get some food, do you want to come with?" Kate puts the basketball back on the rack and says, "Yeah just let me get my stuff from the locker room real quick." Once she leaves to locker we both get into Kate's car and both agree to go to Caines, when we sit down to eat, Kate starts the conversation, "How was class today? You know, with our hangover and stuff." I let out a sigh and say, " I definitely should have stopped drinking when you told me to last night, class was hell today." Kate lets out a small laugh and says, "I figured today was going to be pretty rough for you, all of you were drunk as hell last night." I stick my tongue out at her and she laughs. After a few more minutes of talking, we both get done eating and we get back into Kate's car, "I'm not ready to go home yet, do you want to go on a walk or something?" I look over at Kate and smile, "Sure, that sounds fun." Kate hands me the aux cord and says, "Play whatever you want, but just so you know, if you play something bad, there are no promises that I'm not going to make fun of you." I laugh as I go to my Spotify and start playing Taylor Swift, Kate looks at me and smiles, "Good choice, Kate approves." I laugh at her and say, "Just drive you weirdo." After a few minutes of driving Kate pulls into a park and we start walking, "Thanks for agreeing to come with me Em, this is one of my favorite places to come and not worry about things for a while." I smile and look up at her "This place is beautiful, I would definitely come here more often if I had time." We continue walking for a little bit before we sit on a bench and start to watch the sunset, I smile as I pull out my phone and start taking pictures, I look at Kate to see her already looking at me, I blush and say, "What? I like taking sunset pictures!" She just smiles at me and says, "I don't blame you, it looks beautiful tonight." After a few more minutes of watching the sunset, Kate looks at me and says, "We should probably get going, it's getting dark out, do you want me to take you back to Carver to get your car?" I shake my head and say, "No it's fine, I'll have Gabbie drive me to get it tomorrow. Can you just take me back to my apartment?" Kate smiles at me and says, "Yeah of course, let's go." After jamming out to Taylor Swift on the way home, we finally get to my apartment complex and I get out of her car, she gets out too, I give her a confused look and say, "What are you doing?" she walks over to me and intertwines out fingers, "It's dark, I'll walk you to your apartment." Once we reach my apartment I turn around and look at her, "Thank you for tonight Kate, I had a lot of fun." Kate blushes and says, "No, thank you, that's the most fun I've had in a while." I give her hand a squeeze and say "Bye, Kate." She smiles at me and says, "Bye, Em."

Later that night, all I could think about was Kate, I mean, at the beginning of the week I was convinced that we were going to hate each other for the rest of our lives, but recently I found myself not hating her at all, I actually felt quite the opposite of hate towards Kate.
