"I didn't know you had other plans for tonight", Jongseob said as we wandered through the fair. "Did not", I informed him, "It was just Soul's attempt to give me a chance to get away from Theo if I wanted to." "Oh? Should have guessed that actually. What even is it between Theo and you? I know you aren't that fond of him, but I never got the story told why it's like that." "And I don't want to wake up the bad memories from the past again, so let's keep it like this: I was really close with him until he did something that hurt me pretty bad. And since he never apologized or even seemed sorry for it, I don't want to risk the chance of letting him to close again, you know? But if you want to be friends with him, I won't hold you back. I also won't be mad with you. Just don't expect me to be close with him again." "Noted. But that doesn't really sound like him. Don't you think he might have changed?" "If he has, he first has to prove it to me." "Fair enough", Jongseob sighed and then suddenly stopped in his tracks.
"Aurora, look! It's the university I applied to first!" I followed his outstretched finger to see the emblem of a pretty prestigious university, known for multiple famous musicians. I smiled softly. Jongseob seemed pretty chill, even about his hobbies. But he always got excited talking about this university. His eyes started glowing whenever he did and he was barely to be stopped. "Go ahead, talk to them", I suggested, "Maybe you can continue your Master studies there. Or do something like a semester abroad." "Do you really think so?", he asked with big eyes. "It's worth a try", I shrugged. "But what if they don't like me?" "Jongseob. You're an awesome musician. You have talent and passion. And you should never let a chance like this pass by unused. So you better go there and talk to them by yourself before I shove you there and be like that annoying parent that wants to know their child in the best hands she can think of and that will be incredibly embarrassing. But best believe I will do it." He looked at me thoughtful and I could see the gears in his head turning. Then he sighed and I knew he had given in. "Call me when you're done. I'll look around somewhere else in the meantime", I told him, "Good luck!" I squeezed his shoulder encouragingly and then turned him around to gently push him in the right direction, watching him until he started talking to someone before then left satisfied.
I had closed my eyes and sat on a bench after escaping the loud and full fair. The sun shone in my face and I sighed satisfied. "Where did you leave Jongseob?", I suddenly heard a familiar voice and flinched, "Thought you three would be pretty much inseparable." I didn't need to open my eyes to know who stood in front of me. "We're still individuals capable of being on our own too though, Theo." "Sorry for questioning that. Mind if I sit?" "Can't forbid you to." "Sounds welcoming." Okay, no need to be hostile, I told myself and opened my eyes. "Not so much of a fair fan as well?", I asked him. He shrugged. "We have plenty of time to look through everything." "True that." "And you? You're still not fond of big crowds, are you?" "That for sure hasn't changed." We sat in silence for some time and I closed my eyes again.
"Hey, uhm, Ro?" A bit surprised by hearing my nickname from him, I opened my eyes and looked at him. "You... I mean... You still have a genuine interest in music, do you not?" I raised an eyebrow. "Why yes, I do." "Good. I... You know, I was hoping you did choose science as your major because you wanted to, not because it was the second-best option and you tried to avoid me." "You give yourself to much credit, dear." "For this once, I am glad I do." "Listen Theo, I will not budge if I have my mind set on things, no matter who I will have to face or who I want to avoid. Because to reach my goals and dreams, I will have to go through challenges and they will make me grow and get me to where I want to. Why make it depend on the people around me and not take them as challenges as well?" He looked at me thoughtfully. "I like your new confidence a lot, you know?", he then said. I shrugged. "I would thank you for it, but I hate to give you credit for this one. I worked myself out of my slump myself, you only made me go there." "I never apologized, did I?" I sat up surprised. For a short second, I was wondering if not only me but he as well was bothered by that all those years. I shook my head. "Well... I am sorry, Aurora. I really am. You deserved better and you still do. But I wonder... Maybe we could at least try to be friends again?"
