Kane crouched low, blending into the shadows as he approached the fortified Russian outpost. The chaos from the earlier assault had left the guards on high alert, but their focus was scattered, making it easier for Kane to slip through their defenses.
"Claire, can you hear me?" Kane whispered into the communicator.
"Loud and clear," Claire's voice crackled in his ear. "What's your status?"
"I'm approaching the outer perimeter. I'm going to take out the guards one by one," Kane replied, his voice steady with a mix of determination and drunken confidence.
"Be careful, Kane. We can't afford any mistakes," Claire cautioned.
Kane nodded to himself, his mind focused on the mission. He moved silently, his senses heightened by the adrenaline coursing through his veins. As he neared the first guard, he drew a knife from his belt. The guard was oblivious, and his back turned to Kane.
With swift precision, Kane wrapped his arm around the guard's neck, pulling him into the shadows. The knife found its mark, and the guard slumped silently to the ground. Kane dragged the body behind a pile of crates, ensuring it was hidden from view.
"One down," Kane murmured, his breath steady.
"Good. Keep moving," Claire encouraged.
Kane continued, his movements fluid and calculated. He approached the next guard, who was patrolling a narrow alley between two buildings. Using the cover of darkness, Kane crept up behind him and delivered a quick, lethal blow. The guard crumpled without a sound.
"Two down," Kane reported, his confidence growing.
"Stay focused, Kane. You're doing great," Claire's voice reassured him.
As Kane moved deeper into the base, he began to notice subtle changes in his perception. He could almost sense the presence of the guards before he saw them. His robotic arm felt more responsive, the strength and precision of his movements more pronounced.
"Claire, I think I'm starting to understand my powers," Kane whispered. "I can sense them before I see them. It's like my mind is expanding."
"That's great, Kane. Use it to your advantage," Claire replied, excitement in her voice.
Kane approached a larger guard, standing by the entrance to a building. This one would be more challenging, but Kane's confidence was unshakable. He closed his eyes for a moment, focusing on the guard's presence. When he opened them, he moved with lightning speed, his robotic arm delivering a crushing blow to the guard's head. The guard collapsed, unconscious before he hit the ground.
"Three down," Kane said, his voice filled with a mix of satisfaction and anticipation.
"You're almost there, Kane. Keep going," Claire's voice urged him on.
Kane's mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions, fuelled by his thirst for revenge and the alcohol still in his system. He approached the central tent, where General Romanovich was supposedly held up. Two guards stood at the entrance, their eyes scanning the surroundings.
Kane took a deep breath, focusing on the guards. He moved swiftly, his robotic arm striking one guard in the throat while his knife found the heart of the other. Both guards fell silently, their weapons clattering to the ground.
"I'm at the entrance," Kane whispered, his heart pounding with anticipation.
"Be careful, Kane. This is it," Claire's voice was tense with worry.
Kane paused for a moment, gathering his thoughts. He felt a strange calm wash over him, a clarity of purpose that steadied his nerves. He was ready.
"Claire, I'm going in," Kane said, his voice resolute.
