There are several things I despise. One of them is people waking me, so I'm livid when a bang on my door at 5 am telling me to get ready wakes me up. The sun isn't even up yet, so whoever decided that it was okay to wake me up, is insane. A ping from my phone stops my pondering short.

Theo: Doubt you'll be awake by now. But just wanted to check on you.

Theo: Got meetings all day, so I doubt that I'll have a chance to call.

What a caring brother. I wonder where this personality has been all this while.

Me: Luckily for you. I am and don't worry, I'm sure you'll call later.

Theo: Who are you planning to kill??!!

Me: Ouch. I'm meant to go through some tests today, that's all.

Me: Rude of you to assume murder is the only thing that'll get me up so early in the morning.

Theo: That's what you did in seventh grade when Ryan decided to steal your lunch.

Me: That wasn't murder. And thanks to me he'll be a vegetarian forever.

Theo: You're evil.

I laughed, getting out of bed to take a warm shower, letting the warm water cascade down my body, my hair firmly tucked away in my shower cap. Getting out of the shower and taking off my shower cap I looked at my hair in the mirror, my black curls reappearing. I started straightening my hair shortly after I started high school because straight hair is easier to manage. It was easier to take care of my hair in middle school because I always had my hair at shoulder length.

I put on a grey sweater and a pair of leggings and pulled my hair into a braid. I was grabbing my sneakers when a voice yelled out, "Myla, you done?!" Angie.

"Yeah, I'll be out soon," I yelled back, lacing my sneakers.

"Cool. I'll be waiting for you in the common room."

A few minutes later, after giving myself a pep talk, I entered the common room where Angie and Asher sat on the couch talking. "I'm here," I said to getting their attention. They were both wearing their uniforms.

"Perfect, the others are on the bus waiting," Angie said.

"Normally, I wouldn't bother with this, but with Myla here I'll go over the procedures for the test,", we were in the Standard Testing Arena (STA); where all tests like this were conducted. The room contained 250 desks, partitions dividing each grade. Edward Rayton stood in front of us in a crisp suit that looked uncomfortable. He looked really tired; I would be too if I had to be awake if I had to get out of bed early just to conduct a test.

"60 multiple choice questions from different areas, all randomized. You have 2 hours to submit, and your results will be sent today, you've been provided with all the equipment needed," I glanced around, the tension was so thick that I could stab it with a knife. Even the peppy Angie had become grim-faced. The environment wasn't helping either, the STA reminded me of an asylum- minus the padded walls. White walls and tiles, black ceiling, and we were the only ones in here. Forget asylum, this could pass as the secret base of evil scientists who groom young children.

"Remember that as an Elite, you have to pass a certain grade threshold and if you can't you'll be on probation pending when another test can be held," I heard someone gulp. I couldn't wait to be done with this test; at this point, the tension could strangle me.

"Your two hours start now and remember to read the instructions carefully," Suspicious. I opened the booklet and scanned, Calculus, Literature, Organic Chemistry, and Ancient History questions. When I become President, I'm banning tests like this. I didn't even study, why didn't I study? I continued surveying the questions and stumbled upon the very interesting instruction. ANSWER ANY 30 QUESTIONS OF YOUR CHOICE. I change my mind; I like this test.
