The trees provided shade against the burning rays of sunlight, we'd been walking for at least five minutes and Reid still hadn't said a thing. "What exactly is so important that Eli couldn't tell me?"
Reid stopped, turned to me, and smirked, he's like a Cheshire cat. "There are things he couldn't have told you considering he's never been ranked in the elite 3."
"Like what?" I asked.
"Like how every elite 3 has to appear for meetings every Friday after school; don't worry, I'm sure they won't mind if you skip today's meeting," he stepped closer, "When prospective parents and students arrive, it's our job to receive them," another step. "And competitions? that's our job," another step. We were only inches apart, his 6'2 frame towering over my 5'4.
"I'm sure he could have explained it," I reasoned, taking a step back.
"He could. But he doesn't understand the responsibility of being ranked that high."
"Now that you've told me, can you take me to the dorm?" I said, irritated.
"That wasn't the reason I wanted to talk with you," he said, brushing his dark locks away from his face, his grey eyes coming into view.
"What was your reason then?"
"There are exactly 250 students in Rayton, 50 in each grade and 10 in each league," he said.
"Eli told that me already."
"Haven't you wondered how you're here?" I hadn't, I was so focused on trying to adjust that I didn't even question it.
"Who am I replacing?"
"Sylvie Frost. Former 3rd ranked Junior Elite," he answered. An emotion flickered on his face, gone too soon for me to read.
"Why did she leave?"
"Sylvie was amazing, but she never minded her own business. Always poking her nose into things that were none of her business," I cocked my head.
"You don't know me, so how can you compare us?"
"I have a feeling that you are one of those people who like to stir up trouble. And people like that always get ill fates,"
"Are you threatening me James-Carter?" I raised an eyebrow.
"It was only an observation Emiliana, you're free to deviate."
"It's Myla, don't call me Emiliana," I warned.
"It's your name, isn't it?" he smirked.
"Just take me to the dorms," I said, irritated.
"Just continue down this path, you'll get there. If you can rank this high, you should be able to follow instructions," he said and walked past me, heading in the direction of the cafeteria.
"You're the worst tour guide ever!" I yelled, and he chuckled.
A few minutes later I was on the doorstep of the Junior Elite dorm. I dragged myself upstairs to my room, I noticed 3 suitcases in the corner of the room, I rummaged through them and was relieved to see my clothes were pink-free.
I was going through the other suitcases when my phone rang, the tune of 'End of Time' by Alan Walker playing, Theo. The perfect person to rant to.
"How's my baby sister doing?" he said as I answered.
"She's not doing fine," I plopped on my bed.
"She mustn't be if she didn't even complain about me calling her my baby sister."
"I should have said no," I said.
"What's going on?"
"I'm in the same school as my ex-best friend who's currently ignoring my existence and for some reason, I have a blushing mother and..."
