Head Elite Levi Osamu stood from his desk and made his way to us, a charming smile on his face. The 5'7 black-haired, grey-eyed Elite inspected me, his eyes roaming over my body before finally settling on my face.
"Please come in and have a seat," he turned to Nathan and Reid, "You two can go, I will accompany Emiliana to dinner," Nathan nodded and both boys left the room.
I followed Levi to the desk, taking a seat opposite him. "I would have expected you to be at the council meeting this afternoon, so the others could meet you."
"I was busy unpacking," I responded. I don't know what, but my instincts told me this guy was bad news, and my instincts were never wrong.
"No worries. I heard that you are a student on a trial basis?" I nodded. This was beginning to feel more like a job interview.
"Yes. Ed... Mr. Rayton gave me the choice to explore the campus for four weeks before I made my decision," I explained.
"I see. I do hope that you choose to join us here at Rayton," he said with one of his charming smiles.
"Can I ask you a question?" I just needed to know for sure.
"Of course, Emiliana," he responded, I cringed.
"I would like it if you referred to me as Myla," I said in a polite tone. Most polite I've used in a while.
"No problem, Myla. You can ask me any question."
"What happened to Sylvie Frost?" an emotion flickered on his face, anger maybe, before he covered it up with a smile.
"Sylvie left shortly after she resumed," he answered.
"Left?" why would anyone want to leave Rayton?
"Yes. From what I heard, her parents went through a divorce, and she went to live with her dad in Paris."
"Did you ever speak to her?"
"Sylvie was promoted to an Elite this year; I was only able to meet her during our ceremonial dinner. She left before her first council meeting, but from what I gathered at the dinner she seemed to be a free-spirited person, she wanted to be a journalist. She worked for the school paper, and I've read quite a number of her pieces, which were amazing."
"Oh," if the diary belonged to Sylvie, then it would make sense why she thought she wouldn't be here for long. But if she knew she was going to leave so soon, why bother resuming in the first place? Plus, the thing about the truth being revealed, I like this.
"May I ask you a question, Myla?" he said, placing his hands on the desk.
"Sure," I responded.
"How does a girl of your background manage to end up here," that's so rude on so many levels.
"My former principal, Mr. Madden and Mr. Rayton are friends, and apparently, he talked to Mr. Rayton about me. I didn't even realize what was happening till I was called to the office," I explained.
"Interesting, I..." a knock on the door interrupted him. Reid walked in. "I thought I told you to leave," the Head Elite said.
"I did, but Mr. Rayton asked me to drop off some files for him in his office and I thought I could pick up Emiliana. That's if you're done with her," he responded. I looked at him suspiciously.
"I am not. But I will be sure to deliver Myla for dinner, you may go," he commanded. Reid did a mock bow and left the office. Levi glared at his retreating figure.
"Are you and Reid on good terms?" I asked.
"Of course we are. Everyone under me respects and adores me, though he tends to test the waters. Which is why I'm so glad that Nathaniel will be the next Head Council," he responded.
