Asia's POV

I was now in Gym class. The gym teacher, Mr. Douglas, had us go outside for outdoor track. We stepped outside into the high humidity, with anvil shaped clouds dotting the hazy sky. I saw Zakeem up ahead. What was he doing in my Gym class?

"Everyone do five laps!" Mr. Douglas said. "Go!"

I started running, but I tried to catch up Zakeem. It was close to impossible, as he was the fastest runner. He was a tall, skinny dude, and his legs were up to speed. Panting heavily, with sweat forming on my neck, I knew I would never catch up to him, just to say hi.

"Asia, get back to running!" Mr. Douglas commanded. "I didn't tell you to take a break! Move those legs!"

How am I supposed to survive in this high humidity? I tried to run some more laps, but I still wasn't up to speed like Zakeem. He ran just like Usain Bolt. Moving at a snails pace, I was just not cut out to be a runner.

Mr. Douglas now had us doing jumping jacks. Why are we working out in this stifling humidity? I can't wait to go home, and shower. I did some jumping jacks, but as I gazed up at the angry looking sky, I stopped.

"Mr. Douglas, how long are we gonna be out here?" I asked.

"Till I say when we're done!" Mr. Douglas barked. "Now, get back to doing your jumping jacks!"

I did what I was told, and I saw Zakeem. I quickly ran towards his way, but got distracted by a blowing whistle. "Back to where you are, Asia!" Mr. Douglas demanded.

"This isn't Gym class, this is boot camp!" I protested.

"Time for some pushups!"

"I'm not gonna make it," I said, in a weak manner. I collapsed to the ground, and just laid there for a second. I went into deep thought about how I would finally approach Zakeem. Maybe, I could switch my lunch schedule? Or, I can find out where he lives?  What other options were there?

A big crack of thunder brought me out of my reverie. "Everyone back inside, now!" Mr. Douglas ordered. We all ran back inside the school, to stay safe from the impending storm. A lightning bolt grabbed my attention, followed by a big boom of thunder, which sounded like a gunshot. As soon as we got back inside, buckets of water fell from the sky.

It was such a rare occasion for it to thunder during school hours. Gym class was now over, and I quickly went into the girls locker room to change into my normal clothes.  I got a text from Lashay.

Lashay: Hey, babe! Want to go to Bojangles after school?

Me: Yeah, girl! I'm down for that!"

I left the girls locker room, and proceeded to Math class. As soon as I entered, a big crash of thunder shook the entire classroom, and almost deafened my ears. I got a weather alert on my phone about a Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for most areas in the Hampton Roads area, including here in Norfolk.

I hated thunderstorms with a passion. If I was Zakeem, he would keep me safe, wrapped in his arms, while the storm would be so relentless outside.

He would be my calm during the storm.
