**Chapter 1: The Letter**
The Mushroom Kingdom was bustling with its usual energy, the streets of Toad Town filled with the sounds of cheerful chatter and the clatter of market stalls. Yet, amid this idyllic scene, something unusual was brewing at Peach's Castle.
Princess Peach sat at her desk, reviewing the kingdom's financial records, her brow furrowed in confusion. There was a large sum missing from the treasury, and after careful investigation, the cause was clear—Mario had neglected to pay his taxes for years. Peach was baffled and a little upset. Mario, the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom, who had saved her countless times, was also her most delinquent taxpayer.
Determined to address the issue, she summoned Mario to the castle. The red-capped plumber, oblivious to the reason for his summons, arrived with his usual enthusiasm. As he entered the grand hall, he noticed Peach's serious expression.
"Ah, Princess! How can I help today? Is Bowser causing trouble again?" Mario asked, his voice full of his usual energy.
Peach sighed, holding up a thick envelope filled with documents. "Mario, this isn't about Bowser. It's about...this." She handed him the envelope, and as Mario opened it, his eyes widened in shock.
"T-Taxes? But I've been busy saving the kingdom! Who has time for taxes?" Mario stammered, flipping through the pages detailing years of unpaid dues.
Peach's expression softened, but her voice remained firm. "Mario, I know you've done so much for the kingdom, but everyone has responsibilities, even heroes. The amount you owe has grown too large to ignore. You have until the end of the month to pay your debt."
"But, Princess, I don't have that kind of money!" Mario exclaimed, his heart sinking.
Peach shook her head. "I'm sorry, Mario, but if you can't pay, I'll have no choice but to banish you from the Mushroom Kingdom until you do. The rules apply to everyone."
Mario left the castle, feeling the weight of his predicament. He couldn't believe it—banished from the Mushroom Kingdom, his home, until he paid back a debt he couldn't afford. Desperate, he knew he needed to find a solution, and fast.
**Chapter 2: The Ancient Map**
That night, Mario sat by the fireplace in his small house, staring at the flames. Luigi, who had been away on an adventure of his own, returned home to find his brother in despair.
"Mario, what's wrong? You look like you've just seen a ghost," Luigi said, concerned.
Mario explained everything—his unpaid taxes, the massive debt, and the threat of banishment. Luigi listened intently, his mind racing for a solution.
After a moment of silence, Luigi snapped his fingers. "Mario! Remember that old trunk in the attic? The one we found in that haunted mansion? It's full of old maps and scrolls. Maybe there's something in there that could help us find a treasure!"
