Sorry I accidentally deleted Missing you so here is that part again
Tim Bradford had always prided himself on his ability to focus on the mission, to compartmentalize his life as a cop from his personal life. But after two grueling weeks embedded deep in a Metro operation, even he found it difficult to keep his thoughts from drifting back to his wife, Lucy Chen.
As he sat in the dimly lit safehouse, surrounded by cold takeout containers and stacks of intel, his mind wandered to Lucy. He pictured her at home, sitting on their couch, one hand resting protectively on her growing belly, the other tracing the outline of the ultrasound photo they'd taken just before he left. They were having a girl, and every time he thought about that, it brought a mixture of joy and fear. Joy because it was their daughter, their little miracle, and fear because he knew all too well the dangers of the world he was bringing her into.
The burner phone on the table buzzed, snapping him out of his thoughts. He grabbed it quickly, his heart skipping a beat when he saw the caller ID: "Chen."
"Hey," he said, his voice softer than it had been in days.
"Hey yourself," Lucy replied, her voice a soothing balm to his weary soul. "How's it going over there?"
"It's... almost done," Tim answered. "Should be wrapping up soon."
There was a pause, and Tim could hear the faint sound of the TV in the background. He could almost picture her, probably still in her work clothes, feet up on the coffee table, trying to relax but unable to fully unwind without him there.
"I miss you," she said quietly, her voice carrying a weight that made his chest tighten.
"I miss you too," he replied, swallowing hard. "How are you feeling? How's our little one!?"
"She's active," Lucy said with a small laugh. "Keeps kicking me every time I try to sleep. I think she misses her daddy."
Tim closed his eyes, leaning back against the worn couch. "I hate that I'm not there with you, Luce. I wish I could be."
"I know," Lucy said, and he could hear the understanding in her voice. "But I also know why you do this. And our little girl, she's going to know how strong and brave her dad is."
His grip on the phone tightened, his resolve hardening. "I'll be home soon. I promise. And when I get back, I'm not going anywhere for a while. Just you, me, and our daughter."
"I'm holding you to that," Lucy replied, a hint of a smile in her voice. "You better get back here in one piece, Bradford."
"You can count on it, boot."
Lucy smiled as she heard her nickname , she had missed him . Another pause, filled with the unspoken love and longing that only distance could amplify.
"I love you, Tim," Lucy whispered, her voice cracking just slightly.
"I love you too, Luce. So much."
They said their goodbyes, and as Tim hung up the phone, he felt a renewed sense of purpose. The mission was almost over, and soon he would be back where he belonged—by Lucy's side, ready to start their next adventure together as a family.
But for now, he had a job to do. And nothing, not even the thought of his pregnant wife waiting at home, would stop him from seeing it through.
With a deep breath, Tim stood up, pushing all other thoughts aside as he prepared for the final push. Soon, he would be home. And that thought alone was enough to carry him through the last leg of this operation.
When it was over, he'd return to Lucy and their unborn child, ready to give them every part of himself that he'd kept hidden away for so long. They were his future, and nothing mattered more than that.
