Lucy's hands trembled as she stared at the text on her phone. A single photo that had shattered her world: Tim Bradford in a bar, leaning too close to Ashley McGrady and kissing her . The caption beneath it was even worse, confirming her fears: "Tim and I had a great time last night. Sorry, Lucy."
She swallowed hard, the ache in her chest making it difficult to breathe. She and Tim had built something special, something she thought was unbreakable. But seeing him with Ashley, who had once been a part of Tim's past, was like a knife to her heart.
"Lucy," Tim's voice was soft as he approached her at the precinct, his face etched with concern. "We need to talk."
She turned to face him, her eyes filled with tears. "There's nothing to talk about, Tim," she whispered, her voice barely steady. "I saw the photo. How could you do this to us?"
Tim looked confused. "What photo? Lucy, I don't know what you're talking about."
She thrust her phone into his hands, her anger flaring. "This, Tim. You and Ashley."
He stared at the image, his brow furrowed. "Lucy, I don't remember any of this. I was at the bar, sure, but I was just having a few drinks. I don't even remember her being there."
"Save it, Tim," Lucy snapped, her voice laced with bitterness. "I can't be with someone I can't trust."
Tim's face fell, his eyes pleading. "Lucy, I swear, I would never—"
She shook her head, tears spilling over. "It's over, Tim. We're done."
He reached out for her taking her hand but she shook his hand off.
"Don't touch me ."
These words stung in his chest knowing he messed up. The thing was he didn't remember anything that happed, the only thing that he did remember was him at the bar and the next ting was him in a hotel bed naked. Days turned into weeks, and Lucy tried to move on, throwing herself into her work. But every time she saw Tim at the station, a pang of hurt and betrayal coursed through her. Then one day, Angela approached her, her expression serious. "Lucy, I think you need to see this."
" Look I know this isn't my place but I couldn't watch you guys being miserable and not do anything "
She handed Lucy a file. Inside were photos and statements from several witnesses, bartenders, and patrons who described the events of that night in detail. Tim had been sitting alone at the bar when Ashley had approached him. She'd struck up a conversation, but he'd seemed uninterested.
Angela explained, "According to the witnesses, Tim looked out of it after a while. One of the bartenders mentioned Ashley slipping something into his drink when he wasn't looking."
Lucy's heart pounded as she read through the file. "You think Tim was drugged?"
Angela nodded. "It looks that way. Ashley was determined to get Tim back. She must have thought this was the only way."
A wave of relief and guilt washed over Lucy. She had been so quick to judge, to let her emotions take over. She needed to talk to Tim.
She found him in the gym, punching a heavy bag with a ferocity that mirrored her own tumultuous emotions. "Tim," she called out softly.
He paused, his eyes meeting hers, a mix of pain and hope flickering in them. "Luce ?."
She took a deep breath, stepping closer. "I'm sorry, Tim. I should have believed you. Angela found evidence that Ashley... she drugged you."
Tim's fists clenched, a mix of anger and relief washing over his face. "I didn't cheat, Lucy. I'd never do that to you."
"I know," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "I'm so sorry."
He pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly. "We'll get through this, Lucy. Together."
They had missed being in each others arms, they had missed sleeping next to each other and waking up in each others arms .As they held each other, the pieces of their broken relationship began to mend, the trust and love they shared growing stronger. In that moment, Lucy knew that they could face anything, as long as they were side by side.
