Jack and Dr.Wormsly had known each other and shared a strong bond of friendship.
Today was a special day because Dr.Wormsly was moving into a new office, and Jack his bodyguard was thrilled to assist him.
The lobby of the bustling office building buzzed with the hum of conversation, the clatter of keyboards, and the occasional ring of telephones. Amidst the activity, Jack stood with his dog, Blitz, by his side, eagerly awaiting the arrival of his friend, Dr. Wormsly.
The anticipation was palpable as he glanced repeatedly at the entrance, his excitement barely contained.
Blitz, a well-trained working dog, sat obediently at Jack's feet, his keen eyes scanning the crowd with interest. The dog seemed to sense the significance of the day, his tail wagging gently.
Finally, the glass doors swung open, and Dr. Wormsly appeared, struggling slightly with a box filled with his important research materials. And his backpack Jack's face lit up with excitement, and he moved forward, his wide grin a testament to the joy he felt at seeing his old friend.
"Dr. Wormsly!" Jack called out, his voice filled with warmth. "It's great to see you!"
Dr. Wormsly looked up, a smile spreading across his face as he recognized Jack. "Jack, it's been too long!" he replied, his voice tinged with both relief and happiness. "Thank you for coming. I could really use the help."
As Jack moved to take the backpack from Dr. Wormsly, Blitz trotted forward, eager to greet the newcomer. Dr. Wormsly's smile faltered, and he took a small step back, his eyes widening with fear.
"Jack, you know I'm not good with dogs," he stammered, his voice shaking slightly.
Jack chuckled softly, kneeling down to give Blitz a reassuring pat. "Don't worry, Dr. Wormsly. Blitz is a working dog I've borrowed for today. He's completely safe and well-trained. You can even pet him if you'd like."
Dr. Wormsly hesitated, glancing nervously at Blitz. The dog tilted his head, his eyes calm and inviting. Slowly, the scientist extended a trembling hand towards Blitz, who remained perfectly still.
"See? He's a good boy," Jack encouraged, smiling at his friend.
Tentatively, Dr. Wormsly's hand made contact with Blitz's head. The dog's fur was soft and warm, and Dr. Wormsly couldn't help but smile as he gently petted him.
"Well, I suppose he's not so bad," Dr. Wormsly admitted, a touch of surprise in his voice. "Thank you, Jack. I appreciate you bringing him along."
"Anything for you, Dr. Wormsly," Jack replied, adjusting the backpack with ease. "Let's get you settled into your new office. We've got a lot of catching up to do."
"Thank you, Jack. I could use the help," Dr. Wormsly said, adjusting the box in his arms.
Together, they began their journey down the hallway towards Dr. Wormsly's new office. Jack, fueled by his enthusiasm, couldn't resist the urge to add some playful flair to his walk.
With a mischievous glimmer in his eyes, he suddenly ran towards the nearest wall, swiftly jumping off it with a burst of energy. It was a move that showcased both his agility and excitement.
Amused by Jack's antics, Dr. Wormsly couldn't help but chuckle. "Stop that," he said with a smile, as Jack landed gracefully. Dr. Wormsly kicked his backpack from behind, causing it to bounce in the air. With a lighthearted tone, he jokingly added, "Calm down, Jack. We have work to do."
Jack caught the backpack with ease and laughed. "Alright, alright."
Arriving at Dr. Wormsly's new office, they set down the box and the backpack. As Jack entered, his eyes widened with awe. The office was spacious and filled with state-of-the-art equipment. He couldn't help but feel impressed by Wormsly's new work environment.
"Wow, Dr. Wormsly, this place is incredible!" Jack said, looking around in amazement, Blitz had also found the place stunning and roamed around.
"Indeed, it is," Dr. Wormsly replied, setting down the box on a large table. "I'm looking forward to all the work we'll be able to accomplish here."
Jack nodded enthusiastically. "Me too. So, what's first on the agenda?"
Dr. Wormsly smiled. "Let's start by organizing these materials. We've got a lot of exciting experiments ahead of us."
As Dr.Wormsly began unpacking his belongings, organizing his tools and research materials, Jack took a moment to soak in the surroundings. He marveled at the advanced technology and intricate machinery that adorned the office.
Just as Jack was lost in his amazement, his friend, Quinn who happened to be passing by the office, poked his head through the door. With a warm smile, he offered to fetch Dr.Wormslys the coffee he had mentioned earlier.
Wormsly gratefully accepted the offer, knowing his friend's knack for making a perfect cup of coffee.
While Quinn went to prepare the coffee, Jack engaged in a lively conversation with him.
They caught up on each other's lives, sharing stories and laughter. It was evident that their bond extended beyond the professional realm, and they cherished their friendship dearly.
Meanwhile, as Jack chatted away, Dr.Wormsly reached into one of the boxes and pulled out a collection of breathtaking pictures.
These were not just any pictures; they were images of space, captured by satellites and telescopes from various missions.
Dr.Wormsly carefully laid out the pictures on a nearby table, his eyes gleaming with fascination. Each image depicted the vastness of the universe, showcasing galaxies, nebulas, and distant planets.
"I wanted to be an astronomer" It was a reminder of his passion for exploring the mysteries of space and his dedication to unraveling its secrets
Lost in the beauty of the images, Dr.Wormsly couldn't help but share his excitement with Jack. He pointed to each picture, describing the celestial objects and the significance of the missions that captured them.
Jack listened his curiosity piqued by Dr. Wormsly knowledge and enthusiasm.
As they admired the pictures together, Quinn returned with the much-awaited coffee, placing it on the table next to the captivating images of space.
The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, adding to the ambiance of the office.
"Did you know," Dr. Wormsly began with excitement in his voice, "that Jupiter was originally thought to have the potential to become a star? It failed to ignite due to its mass not being sufficient for nuclear fusion."
Intrigued by the comparison, Quinn, who had been listening attentively, made a lighthearted comment. "So, Dr. Wormsly, I guess you and Jupiter have something in common—both of you failed to become something brighter," he said with a chuckle.
Unfortunately, Wormsly didn't take the comment in the intended lighthearted manner. His face turned red, and his expression changed from excitement to embarrassment, his posture visibly deflating and his daisy wilting.
He couldn't believe that Quinn had made such a remark, even if it was meant in jest. Feeling hurt and insulted, Wormsly's emotions got the better of him like always. He started to throw a fit, expressing his frustration and disappointment in an exaggerated manner.
With his voice trembling, Wormsly shouted, "I'm not a failure! I'm trying my best! Do you think my efforts and work are nothing but failures?!"
Quinn and Jack's eyes widened. Quinn quickly tried to backtrack, raising his hands in a placating gesture. "Whoa, chill, dude. It was just a joke."
Jack, taken aback by Wormsly's sudden outburst, quickly tried to diffuse the situation. He approached Dr. Wormsly calmly, offering words of reassurance and apology. "Dr. Wormsly, I'm so sorry. Quinn didn't mean to hurt or offend you. It was just a poor attempt at humor."
Wormsly, still visibly upset, took a deep breath. "I just... I've worked so hard, and sometimes it feels like no one understands the effort I put in."
"Wormsly, I understand that you're upset, but I think you may have misunderstood our friend's intentions. He didn't mean to belittle your efforts or imply that you're a failure" Jack said.
Wormsly was still visibly angry "Well, it certainly felt that way! It's not easy, you don't know what it's like begging people to love you and being so burnt out so they can be proud of me,but it's never enough—maybe I am just a failure!"
Wormsly held back tears as he repeated "...I'm doing my best, and I won't tolerate being mocked for it."
"I apologize if my comment came across as mocking. That was never my intention. I deeply respect your dedication and the hard work you put into your research" Quinn quickly glances at Jack and back to Wormsly.
Dr.Wormsly calmed down slightly "Well, I appreciate your apology. But please understand that the work I do is incredibly important to me. I pour everything I have into it, and sometimes it feels like the weight of the world is on my shoulders. So, forgive me for being sensitive to any perceived criticisms"
After a moment of silence, Dr.Wormsly apologized for his overreaction and acknowledged that he had misunderstood his friend's remark. As they looked around the office, now slightly disheveled from Dr. Wormslys fit.
Wormsly took a sip of his coffee and sighed heavily then Jack couldn't help but notice the mysterious serum that Dr. Wormsly had been secretly developing and fought so hard to keep it safe.
"Dr. Wormsly," Jack began carefully, "I've noticed that serum you've been working on. What's it for?"
With a heavy heart and a hint of hesitation, Dr. Wormsly decided to confide in Jack. "Jack, it's not just an ordinary experiment or a potential cure for a disease," he began slowly. "This serum is... well, it's designed to make everyone obedient."
The revelation left Jack and Quinn shocked and deeply troubled. They couldn't fathom the implications of such a serum being released into the world. The idea of manipulating people's minds and stripping them of their free will horrified them.
"Dr. Wormsly," Jack said, his voice trembling with disbelief, "why would you pursue such a path? This isn't like you."
Dr. Wormsly sighed, his expression a mix of pride and guilt. "It's not something I ever planned on doing. But the pressures and expectations, the constant failures... I thought maybe if I could control the environment, I could ensure success, eliminate conflict, create harmony."
"But at what cost?" Jack interjected, his voice rising. "People's freedom? Their ability to think and feel for themselves? This goes against everything we've ever stood for!"
"Jack, my friend, I understand your worries, but you have to trust me.This serum is not evil; it's a cure. A cure that will bring about a peaceful and obedient society. Imagine a world without conflict, without violence. Isn't that what you wished for?"
As the realization sank in, Jack felt a heavy burden on his shoulders. He knew he had a responsibility to protect not only Dr. Wormsly but also the world from the potential consequences of this serum.
Jack had to make a difficult decision - to confront Dr. Wormsly and convince him to abandon his dangerous experiment or to take matters into his own hands.
Jack: "But why, Dr. Wormsly? Is it worth sacrificing our humanity for the illusion of peace? A society without independent thought and free will is not a society worth living in. We need diversity of opinions and the ability to question authority. It's what drives progress and innovation"
With determination and a deep sense of duty, Jack prepared himself to have a serious conversation with Dr. Wormsly. He hoped that his words would reach the scientist's conscience and make him reconsider the path he was treading.
"Jack, I respect your concerns, but you fail to see the potential benefits.Think about the lives that could be saved, the conflicts that could be avoided. This serum has the power to bring about a utopia, a world free from pain and suffering"
Jack could feel an awful energy towards Dr.Wormsly, he would have known that he has a obvious hatred towards humans and conflicts but there had to be more reasoning behind it.
