My response when someone was yelling loudly? I yelled back. Even louder, if possible. The snoring all around us stopped when the Cyclops began screaming, wildly gesturing and shouting and pointing at us. It had blonde hair which fell into its eye in messy, unkempt bangs. Its one, giant eye was as brown as... chocolate, to be nice. It looked like Justin Bieber, if Justin Bieber was three meters tall. I yelled back at the Cyclops, but this time Cassia had the better reaction time of the two of us. She threw her knife in the cyclops' eye, which lead him to scream even more and even louder. By now, there were steps audible. Behind us paper was rustling. We had to get away. Cassia pulled her pocket knife out of the Cyclops' eye, all while mumbling to herself how disgusting and gross the slime on the knife was. The cyclops was still screaming and then slowly began to decay. His limbs had already been vaporised, dust tickling from the stumps of his arms. We slid between the wall and the dying monster and made our way down the hall in a hurry.
We jumped past the cyclopses' slumber party, right when the first of them stumbled out. One was still wearing its sleeping mask (with one eye, naturally). Then we heard the blood curling scream behind us and the voice of the chef Cyclops echoing through the hallway. »Kevin! You really are good for nothing!«, it yelled. I assumed the dying Cyclops was Kevin, who now sobbed like a little monster kid. We didn't look back, we just ran past the Cyclopses, who lazily tried to grab us, and then we charged down the stairs. I wasn't even sure where we were going, I just followed Cas. (I don't think she knew where we were going either.)
We charged down the hallway, jumped over the dirty underwear, and then, right before we arrived at the Hall, Cassia stopped. I ran into her. That was our thing by now - running into each other. We both almost stumbled over but she pulled me back up, more roughly than I would've liked.»Back.«, she said. Her ability to express herself clearly was amazing.
»What?«, I replied bewildered, proving my own quality of speech.
»Back. They're expecting us to go to the Hall.« She insisted, more urgently now. She turned around and pushed me down the hall. For once, I was at a loss of words. Then I just turned around and did as she said. The noise upstairs was getting louder, the steps above our heads echoed eerily and it seemed that the monsters had almost reached the stairs. Right when the first shadow fell through the railings of the staircase, Cassia pulled me into a room to our left. The door opened easily enough and she somehow managed to catch it before it closed with a loud, thundering noise. The room seemed to be a library of sorts. Did Cyclopses read? I couldn't imagine that. Nonetheless, Cassia pulled me further through the room, dragging me along like a child or a suitcase.
»Uhm, why exactly are we in here?«, I then finally asked. She didn't blink or even look in my direction when she answered.
»Hiding. They're probably thinking we went back to the container hall-« she quickly shut up when we heard the footsteps charge down the hall outside. Angry, incomprehensible yelling accompanied it. Then she shook her head and kept walking.
»You see?«
I had to admit, she was creepily smart at times. Maybe not always (cough, the situation where she dropped her backpack, cough) but right now I couldn't help but admire her. When we had reached the back of the library, Cassia kneeled down and looked under one of the shelves. Cyclops libraries were a lot bigger than regular libraries. Therefore, the space between the ground and the shelf was barely big enough to fit a small human. There was nothing that defined me more, than the words »Small human.«
We slid under the shelf and tried to somehow, adjust comfortably. Which wasn't exactly easy. I really hoped we wouldn't stay in this cramped position for the three days until she ship arrived in London.
We were both quiet, listening to the screaming and the echoes of cyclops shoes on the ground. That continued for some more minutes. Then, everything became silent. Finally, just as I set on to say something, the library door opened.
