TW: Sickness, mentions of suicide and death. thank you to my friend batteries for the idea! this one is pretty sad guys :(

Marvin's days had been dark ever since he had lost his lover, Whizzer. He couldn't find light anymore. He didn't realize how blessed he was to have Whizzer, and suddenly the rug was just ripped out from underneath him so fast. It was painful and unfair. He had to stand there, watching the man that made him the happiest fall apart and he couldn't have done anything about it. Each day, he thought to himself, "Why couldn't it have been me?". The worst part was, it was going to be him eventually, he knew that he would get sick too. His friend and family doctor, Charlotte, warned him. "Something that spreads from one man to another," she said. This kept replaying in his head. There was constantly a lump in his throat with a miserable, tearstained face. Most days, he thought about what death would feel like. Would it be freeing or would he feel anything at all? What if he just put an end to the pain of his lost lover and the dread of falling ill to follow him? He knew he couldn't, though. There was still his son, Jason. He would see Jason every weekend and they would stop by Whizzer's grave, leave some flowers, and proceed to go home and eat his favourite food, blueberry pancakes. He needed to be around for Jason as long as he could, he had to be strong.

Marvin would spend most of his time miserably laying on the couch of his neighbours' home. He kept one of Whizzer's shirts with him, it still smelt like his deceased lover and it brought him some odd sense of comfort, almost like he was still with him. It was only a matter of time.

Every so often, his friend, Cordelia, who worked as a caterer, would bring him a plate of food but he would rarely eat anything off the plate except for a few crackers. The loss of Whizzer and his grieving state had stripped Marvin of any sort of appetite he'd had. Maybe it was related to the illness as well, but how could he know? All he could do was pray for more time. One hour more.

Marvin heard a door open, and as he turned his head, he saw Charlotte. She worked very long hours at the hospital, more and more men arriving with the same disease Whizzer had lost his life to and what Marvin would start showing signs of soon enough.

"I'm home. Hey, Marv.." she started with a sympathetic tone. "How're you doing?"

"I miss him.. A lot." he muttered, stifling a sob.

"Yeah, I know. I miss Whizzer too, but he's up there. He's happy, I hope-"

"Charlotte.." Marvin interrupted, a few tears starting to fall from his eyes. "I don't want to be happy right now. Whizzer, he wasn't just my- my boyfriend.. He was my friend. He was an amazing friend, he would always listen, and it's weird not seeing his face.. Because, as long as I can remember, his face had just.. Always been there...." Marvin trailed off, burying his head into a pillow, sniffling.

"Would you like to talk about it?" she inquired, tossing her purse to a nearby chair and taking off her jacket.

Marvin made a small groan, cracking his back and sitting up on the couch.

"How about Cordelia makes you a snack? We could all sit down and talk, maybe you.. Could shower?"

"Sure.. Fine.." replied Marvin. He practically rolled off the couch, weakly dragging himself to the bathroom. He hadn't showered in nearly a week.

Charlotte nodded, walking to the kitchen where you could find Cordelia. She was organizing the fridge, and frankly, it was quite a mess in there. Jars, bottles, boxes scattered all over the floor.

"Hey, honey! How's Marvin doing?" Cordelia asked.

"Not too great. I thought that maybe we should make him some food and we could talk? If he doesn't try and get better, he's going to regret it."

Cordelia gave a nod, beginning to pick up speed in tidying the room so she could make something for Marvin to eat. She'd noted how he hadn't been eating recently, and it scared her. He was very obviously been losing weight and she didn't know if it had to do with a lost appetite or an illness. She assumed that Charlotte had noticed as well, but she didn't want to bring it up. It would send Charlotte into a deeper state of anxiety and that wasn't a good solve to anything.

Meanwhile, Marvin turned on the tap of the shower. Initially, the water felt cold, causing him to shudder a bit. The stream from the shower head grew warmer, making it more comfortable. As he let the hot water cascade over his weary body, a wave of odd fatigue washed over him. The exhaustion he'd been feeling for the past few days seemed to multiply, the steam from the shower making it difficult to breathe. He attempted to brace himself against the tiled wall of the shower, trying to steady himself, but everything began to spin. Marvin's vision blurred, and as he felt his knees buckle. He made a weak attempt to call out for Charlotte or Cordelia, but he was too late, his consciousness slowly succumbing to the unexpected attack.

Charlotte and Cordelia heard the thump from the room down the hall and immediately dropped their conversation, rushing to Marvin's aid.

Charlotte knocked on the door frantically, "Marvin, are you okay?"

No answer.

"Jesus Christ.. Cordelia, call the hospital." she exclaimed, opening the door to find Marvin collapsed on the ground of the shower.

Nearly an hour later, Marvin had awoken. Everything was still blurry and his hearing was fuzzy, but he was able to make something out. He was in a hospital. It smelt clean and the fluorescent lights burned his eyes slightly. Behind him.. Was that Jason?

"Cordelia.. What happened? Will everything be alright?" Jason sniffled, standing next to his mom, Trina, and her husband, Mendel, as they watched Marvin be wheeled down the hall into a hospital room. The same one as Whizzer had been confined to.

This was scary.
