Hope you enjoy<3

Once everyone headed back to wherever they were before we arrived, Xavier spoke up, "Let's head to my hut. You can rest there."

I nodded in understanding, gripping Ahi's hand. "Sure... And um thanks for earlier."

Xavier gave a small nod and turned away. Seemed he wasn't one for small talk. Not that I minded. Things were kind of awkward between us with some weird tension in the air.

He began walking off and Ahi picked me up to hurry after him. We walked through the village, others staring at us with a mixture of curiosity and weariness. Some murmured to each other, but I couldn't really make out what they were staying.

Still I could guess it was about Ahi being a feral.

I spotted a few females among the countless males, but it was hard to see them when their males surrounded them, blocking my view. Guess ferals were a real problem here.

Soon we got to the edge of the village where a lone hut stood, the thick jungle bordering its open land. The hut was bigger than I'd expected, rectangular in shape, but looked like it had seen better days compared to the other huts.

At least the yard around it seemed neat, so I didn't have to worry about bugs and small animals in the long grasses. Still, the hut was likely going to need a new roof. Thatch roofs were a fire hazard waiting to happen.

"You can stay here for now." Xavier said as we got to the front door.

"What about you?" I asked.

While I was grateful for some place to stay, I didn't want to kick the owner out. I mean, the place didn't seem big enough for the three of us despite the size of the hut.

Maybe it was bigger inside, but if it was one big room, I was going to pull out my tent. No way was I going to share the same room as some stranger. Even if Xavier did help us.

Which was probably rich coming from me, considering Ahi and I were technically strangers, but we had built a little trust in the wildness and I knew Ahi wouldn't do anything crazy. There were strict agreements between us.

Xavier, on the other hand, I wasn't sure what was going through his mind. For all I knew, he was as crazy as that jaguar from earlier.

Xavier tilted his head. "I have a nest nearby. Huts aren't my thing, but I'm provided one because I help with the ferals. You can make use of it since you won't be here long and it's near my nest."

Guess his nest was in one of the nearby trees. I made a mental note to figure out where it was. Didn't need to accidentally flash him or do something equally embarrassing.

"Okay... thanks." I murmured before turning to Ahi. "Let's get this place cleaned up."

"Alright." Ahi nodded, setting me down and handing me my bag. He was quiet for a moment, turning to Xavier. "Shall I help you hunt down ferals?"

"You want to take down ferals?" Xavier raised an eyebrow, looking as surprised as me.

"Yes." Ahi stated. "There are some I want to get rid of and since you helped us, I'll repay the debt by helping you take some down. That's why Grasslands City sent you here."

I wasn't sure why, but I had a feeling there was some unspoken thing going on here. Wasn't sure what it was, but Ahi seemed uncomfortable saying it in my presence.

"I'm going inside. You guys talk things out here." I said, giving Ahi the privacy he wanted.

He could tell me everything later when he was more comfortable about it.

I headed for the hut, opening the wooden door and getting hit with dust and a musty smell. Yeah, this place was going to need some serious TLC.

[Newbie Starter Packer Awarded. Check mailbox to receive rewards.]

The system notification suddenly popped up, making me pause in front of the hut. The two guys were still talking so I decided to head inside and check out the rewards.

Coughing at the cloud of dust I accidently started when I headed inside, I found myself in a large room. It split off into two other rooms. Not bad for a rundown place.

But checking out the place could wait for now. I wanted to check my mailbox. A second later, notifications popped up in front of me.

I raised my hand, poking the first button, wanting to test a theory of mine. The screen glitched for a moment, my finger touching what felt like a phone screen. The notification screen then suddenly changed, opening up the first message in my mailbox.

Not going to lie, but this was both cool and scary at the same time.

Not sure how I was going to help this world grow, but who was I to complain at a second chance at life. Still, this message somewhat explained a lot to me.

I wasn't sure what I was going to use the wish for though. Some thoughts came to mind, but I decided to keep it open for now. It was going to take a while to get that wish, so I had some time to mull over it. After claiming the coins and closing the message, I turned my attention to the second one.

Really?! After everything, the system needed to update itself. This was crappy, but I couldn't do much. I clicked on confirm, grumbling as I watched the screen change, just wanting my rewards instead of delays.
