Yes, this is 9 hours late because I thought today was Thursday. And yes, you guys get a bonus chapter for my stupidity XD
I'll publish it tom sometime though because I need to write an extra chapter for my stockpile to make up for the extra chapter published.
Anyway, hope you enjoy<3
"I need to go hunting the whole day tomorrow and wanted to make sure you were taken care of while I was gone." Ahi explained as we headed back inside the hut. "You should be safe here, but extra protection doesn't hurt."
"Okay." I murmured, heading to my bag sitting in a corner as Ahi closed the door.
Ahi, however, stopped in his tracks. "You're not upset?"
"Why would I be?" I answered, pulling out some things from my bag. "You're thinking about my safety and honestly after what happened last time, it wouldn't be bad to have someone making sure I'm safe while you're gone."
While I didn't act like it, being kidnapped by those crocodiles had scared the shit out of me. It reminded me how cruel the world could be to a weak female.
If Ahi hadn't been there, who knows what those beastmen were going to do to me...
Well, I had an idea of what was going to happen to me and that scared me. I realized I needed all the protection I could get. Solely relying on Ahi was going to either get one of us killed or worse, both of us.
And the thought of Ahi dying stirred a protective feeling within me. We might have not known each other for long, but he was definitely growing on me.
William suddenly coming by was just a little surprising. I hadn't expected Ahi to go on a hunting trip, but I guess that's what he was speaking about to Xavier. Ahi probably asked him to talk to the villagers about finding someone.
The only mystery was why Ahi was afraid to say those things in front of me. Was it because asking for help as a male makes them look weak? Ahi didn't seem like the type, but our cultures were definitely different.
And I didn't know everything about him.
Asking for help could be an insecurity of his for all I knew. Of course, if that was the case, I was going to have to knock that out of him. Not that it would be easy.
"I see..." Ahi murmured softly, bringing my attention back to our conversation.
Picking up a fur dress I got from the system, I turned to Ahi, walking over to him to gently caress his face. "Were you worried about me being upset?"
"A little..." Ahi leaned into my touch, closing his eyes. "Females don't like their males asking others to help. It makes their male look useless and others will question why she chose that male."
"Guess it's a good thing I'm not like most females." I smirked before pausing for a second. "But on a serious note, you don't have to worry about those things in front of me. You can't be everywhere at once and I do need more males..."
Ahi opened his eyes at my last comment, moving his face to lightly kiss the palm of my hand. Despite the cool touch of his lips, my face was burning hot.
That sly snake pulling such a move when I'm trying to have a serious conversation?!
"You do need more mates. Not too many, but a few strong ones will work." Ahi mused. "I still want you to have lots of time for me."
Why didn't anyone let me know that I'd get hot and bothered hearing Ahi's honest thoughts. Damn I have a smooth talker on my hands now.
"I can agree to that. Not having too many mates." I stated, trying to ignore my pounding heart.
I didn't want to take too many mates because that was just going to be a recipe for disaster. Juggling everyone's feelings and making sure everyone was happy was something I knew I wouldn't be able to do.
I only had so much love I could give out. Besides, I don't think I could handle all the physical demands of many males. Especially if they were like the beastmen in those beastworld stories.
"The question is who to choose?" I said aloud. "There doesn't seem to be any strong beastmen here so I was thinking we could maybe go to that Grasslands City... I think we'll have more luck there."
It was a rough idea, but I wanted to talk to Ahi about it before I made any more plans. He knew more about the city than I did, so planning would be better with his input.
Besides, this decision impacted his life too.
Ahi nodded his head in agreement, holding my hand in his. "The city will be better and safer... The problem is traveling there will take a blue moon. There are a few villages and tribes we can stop at, but traveling will still be dangerous. You'll need another mate at least to safely travel to the city."
I pursed my lips. I wasn't sure how long a blue moon was in terms of time, but I could guess it was probably a month or more. Traveling that long was definitely dangerous as Ahi pointed out.
We'd need to plan this out well to have everything necessary with us and Ahi would likely have to hunt while we traveled. Staying alone in the wild while Ahi was hunting was a bad idea.
Especially if there were any ferals roaming around. We didn't need another incident like with the crocodiles.
I sighed in fustruction. This wasn't looking good. I really wanted to leave this village asap, but it was starting to look impossible. Who the hell was I going to take as another mate? There didn't seem to be anyone good here.
Not that I really looked...
"What do you think of the bird beastman?" Ahi asked suddenly, drawing me back to reality.
"You mean Xavier?" I questioned, raising a brow as I wondered if I had heard right.
I know we agreed that I'll find other strong beastmen to take as mates, but I didn't expect Ahi to actively get involved in my husband hunting. If anything I was expecting a little pushback to delay things.
After all, he did agree that he would accept me having other mates.
Ahi nodded his head. "Yes that beastman... He'll be a great mate as a flying beastman with an elemental ability. It also helps that he's a guardsman in Grasslands City. It'll make getting into the city much easier."
"You really thought this through..." I couldn't help but say out loud before muttering, "If I didn't know better, I'd say you're playing matchmaker."
"Matchmaker?" Ahi frowned, not understanding the word while my face went even redder if that was possible at this point.
He wasn't meant to help that. Damn beastman hearing! I forget how good it is...
"It's someone who pairs females and males together as mates based on how well they'd be together among other things." I explained with a sigh.
"Interesting..." Ahi mused for a moment before shaking his head. "But back to the question, do you like Xavier?"
"Honestly, it's too early to say anything." I answered, pondering about it. "I can't really get a read on him. Maybe if I spent more time with him, I could figure out if I liked him or not."
"Alright." Ahi nodded in understanding. "Would you like to bathe while I go hunt?"
"Sure." I replied, thankful that the topic was being dropped.
If it continued, things were only going to get more awkward. For me at least. Ahi seemed fine talking about other guys. Besides, I wanted to kick back after this long day.
