"Do you have your taser?" Ahi asked me for the hundredth time the next morning.
"Yip." I nodded, annoyance filling me briefly as he gave me another once over.
Honestly, this man was going to drive me crazy with his worrying. Don't get me wrong, his worrying over me showed how much he cared and wanted me to be okay.
It was just that he was close to overdoing it.
Still, I could understand his nerves. We would be separate for the longest time since I've come to the Beastworld. And the last time we were apart things didn't go well...
Sure, Ahi knew who I was going to be with, but we couldn't completely trust this village. Especially with what the elder pulled yesterday.
Hence the taser coming along with me. Better safe than sorry.
"Hey snake!" A voice suddenly yelled, bringing me out of my thoughts. "Get yourself out here before I drag you out!"
"Xavier must be getting impatient." Ahi stated, looking towards the door.
"Elisa, cover yourself if you're there. I'm coming in!" Xavier shouted.
I didn't even get a chance to process his words when the door slammed open. Xavier stormed in ready to drag out Ahi, but came to a stop at the sight of us.
"You were ready?!" Xavier growled. "I've been waiting outside for you since the sun rose. Damn snake..."
What? He was outside this whole time...
"I know." Ahi murmured.
My head turned to Ahi in surprise. Why the hell didn't he say anything? He should've left already if he knew Xavier was waiting for him.
"I'm waiting for William. We can leave once he's here." Ahi added nonchalantly.
Xavier groaned out something about precious time before he stalked out the room. A few minutes later, I heard a thumping sound.
Xavier stormed back inside. "The cat's here. Now let's leave before we lose any more light. I've already tracked down a few nests and don't want to lose their owners."
Ahi nodded his head before turning to me. He planted a soft kiss on my forehead, making me blush a little.
"See you later." Ahi murmured softly.
I nodded my head. "Okay... Be careful out there."
I knew he would be fine, but a part of me was still worried for him. I didn't want to see him injured.
Ahi smiled softly at me. "I'll be safe. Xavier will protect me from any serious harm."
"Sure, sure... Now let's get moving before I get sick." Xavier muttered, walking out.
Ahi and I followed him out, Ahi holding my hand as we walked. He wasn't under the vow anymore since we got to the village and honestly I didn't feel like asking him to do another one.
If I couldn't feel safe without needing a vow to protect him, why stay?
A huge jaguar was waiting outside the hut, looking a little dazed. It took me a moment to realize he was behind the thumping noise from earlier.
The jaguar shook his head and morphed into William. I turned my head immediately, not wanting to accidentally see something.
"Take good care of Elisa for me." Ahi said to William in a serious tone.
William nodded his head. "Of course. I'll bring her back here by sundown."
Not going to lie, kind of felt like a kid being left with a babysitter, but I decided not to think to hard about it. This was for my safety after all.
Xavier finally got sick of Ahi and dragged the poor guy to the jungle. I waved at them, Ahi returning the gesture before the two disappeared.
Once they were gone, I turned to William. "So, where we headed?"
"Back to my mate's home." William answered quickly. " She's excited to meet you and I don't want to make her wait long... so if um you don't mind, may I carry you?"
It was a little surprising to hear that William had a mate. Then again Ahi was pretty comfortable with him being around me. Guess I knew why now.
Of course, I kind of felt dumb for not realizing it sooner. William was easy on the eyes - not that I was interested, but a girl can appreciate good looking men - and he had a nice personality.
It should've been more surprising that someone hadn't grabbed him yet...
"Sure." I finally replied, not in the mood to fight this battle. I didn't feel like walking either.
William smiled before removing his animal skirt. Thankfully, I wasn't scarred as he morphed before I could see anything. It helped I nearly snapped my neck trying to look away.
He crouched down in front of me and it took me a moment to realize he wanted me to get on his back. I did with some awkwardness and William sped off, giving me the worse ride ever.

Ahi let Xavier drag him through the jungle, not really bothered about tracking down ferals like the other beastman was.
He could easily guess the places nearby ferals would haunt having lived many years in the jungle himself. His only concern was finding those crocodiles.
He needed to make sure not a single one came near Elisa ever again.
"I honestly would've never excepted a feral to make those eyes." Xavier suddenly muttered, bringing Ahi out of his thoughts. "You look like one of those love strung males from the city, ready to do anything for their mate."
Ahi smirked as the two casually walked through the jungle. "Do you think ferals are incapable of love?"
"Obviously not seeing how you are... of course there could just be something wrong with you." Xavier mused. "But I've also seen how many ferals treat their females and no matter how much they love their female, they put themselves first. Always."
Because ferals are naturally selfish creatures. Ahi thought to himself. He was just lucky he could control is instincts better than most.
"If you're worried about me hurting Elisa, then why not court her so you can keep an eye on me." Ahi joked.
He didn't really care if the bird took him seriously or not since he had already approved his worth. He would leave the decision to Elisa and Xavier.
Of course, he was hoping the bird would be imterested because it would make it easier to get into Grasslands City.
"You're the weirdest beastman I've ever met." Xavier shook his head before suddenly turning his head to the right. "Looks like there's something up ahead."
Ahi let out his tongue, going into hunting mode. He immediately sensed what Xavier had picked up.
A crocodile.
