I rubbed my temples, feeling a bit dizzy.
The pheromone imbalance triggered my heat, and for several days in a row, I was pinned down at home by that bastard Fu Ran, who kept messing around.
If it weren't for two important collaborations, who knows when he would have let go of me.
Just as I finished the meeting, Lin Zi Yu walked into my office.
"Are you here to see me?"
Lin Zi Yu nodded, his expression serious. "You and Fu Ran..."
I looked away uncomfortably and said: "I've mentioned it to you before. When I differentiated, I was ambushed, and afterward, I developed some issues with my body. My pheromones became unstable, and Fu Ran... helped me out that time.
"He also needed a compatible Omega, so we've just been making do with each other."
Lin Zi Yu stood in front of my table, his eyes thoughtful as he pondered my words. After a moment, he pulled out a gift box from his coat and placed it in front of me.
"Jiu An, this is the couple's watch we picked out last time. I didn't give it to Xu Ning.
"If you need an Alpha, I can..."
I frowned and raised a hand, cutting him off.
"Ah-Yu, I do need an Alpha to help stabilize my pheromones, but I don't need anyone's pity or someone accommodating me out of obligation."
I looked at Lin Zi Yu seriously and pushed the watch back toward him.
"If I'm not your first choice, then I'd rather stick to a purely physical relationship."
Lin Zi Yu, visibly upset, grabbed my hand.
"Jiu An, that's not what I meant!
"Fu Ran... he has Shen Rou! Everyone in the capital knows that. You're going to get hurt!"
I looked at him coldly, pulling my hand back, then my gaze drifted past him to where Fu Ran stood behind him.
"So, between the two of you, I choose neither!"

Lin Zi Yu turned around and locked eyes with Fu Ran, sparks practically flying between them.
In the end, Lin Zi Yu was the first to back down, his expression dejected as he took the couple's watch and left.
I watched his back as he exited the office.
I couldn't help but feel a slight sense of satisfaction.
Lin Zi Yu and I grew up together, and both Xu Ning and I liked him. I didn't believe that someone as perceptive as him, who could sense even a glance, wouldn't know about it.
Even if he was genuinely that slow, could he really not distinguish between my handwriting and Xu Ning's?
I didn't buy it!
"Get out!"
Fu Ran ignored my outburst.
He placed the lunchbox on the table and, after opening each compartment, revealed several deliciously fragrant homemade dishes.
I crossed my arms and sneered, "If President Fu wants to curry favor, couldn't you at least bring some abalone or lobster? These dishes seem a bit too modest!"
"Abalone and lobster can be bought with money, but these homemade dishes, prepared by Mrs. Fu herself, aren't something you can just purchase."
Hmm?
Mrs. Fu... Fu Ran's mother?
He handed me a pair of chopsticks. "Try it."
For some reason, as I sat down, a wave of regret washed over me.
The dishes were simple, yet their flavor was light and comforting, carrying a hint of home that was missing from the food I usually ate at restaurants.
My mother was a lady of high society; after marrying my father, she rarely cooked.
On the rare occasions when she did, my father and I usually ended up in the hospital.
I couldn't help but chuckle.
"Mrs. Fu is quite the cook."
Fu Ran's expression remained unchanged, but when he heard my compliment, a warm light flickered in his eyes.

When my mom heard that I had dealt with the parasites in the company, she rushed back from abroad, determined to support me.
She stormed ahead in her high heels, walking briskly.
"They dared to tamper with the raw materials! Why didn't you tell me? If I had known, I would've sent their whole family straight to jail!"
I followed behind her, pushing the luggage, feeling a warmth in my heart.
"I left that loophole on purpose six months ago, just to catch them all at once.
"Besides, I'm already in my twenties. I can't run to Mom for help every time something happens. That'd be so embarrassing."
She poked my forehead with her manicured fingertip.
"You've spared me some worry, at least."
As we stood at the airport entrance waiting for the secretary, a Maserati pulled up in front of us.
I was momentarily stunned as Fu Ran got out of the car. Before I could react, he efficiently loaded the suitcase into the trunk.
My mom looked at Fu Ran's tall, sturdy frame and nodded approvingly.
"Your new secretary is quite impressive, much better than that skinny one you had before."
I forced a bitter smile and nodded.
Suddenly, my mom asked, "You mentioned someone named Fu Ran earlier... Oh right, you said you even tricked him out of an extra ten percent."
I stiffened, locking eyes with Fu Ran's amused gaze in the rearview mirror.
He coolly added, "Yes, President Luo even used a honey trap."
My mom was shocked. "What? A honey trap? On who? That Fu Ran guy?"
Along the way, I had to explain everything bit by bit, but just as I got through a part, Fu Ran would interrupt with some disruptive comment.
When we finally reached home, I persuaded my mom to go inside.
As soon as she was out of earshot, I couldn't hold back and yelled, "Fu Ran!"
Instead of being angry, Fu Ran smirked. As he walked past me with the luggage, he grabbed the back of my neck and gave me a hard bite on the lips.
In return, I kicked him in the shin!
