Their annual summer visit to King's Landing ended on a somber note. Lady Laena Velaryon's latest pregnancy came with complications. She had always dreamed of a dragonrider's death, in fire and blood. When the command in High Valyrian left her mouth, she was set ablaze. Leaving Prince Daemon without a wife, Baela and Rhaena Targaryen without a mother, and the largest dragon in the world riderless.

Maella had not seen her cousins in some few years, thanks to their father taking his family to Pentos, claiming to wish a life free of the burden of royalty. Castle Driftmark was beautiful, resting right across the bay from Dragonstone. The air smelt strongly of sea salt, and she felt as if it was clinging to her hair. All those of Old Valyria were now dressed in mourning black, standing beside the sea of Blackwater Bay as the tide lapped against the stone. The clothes she wore now had been set out for her, a stark contrast to the clothing already being locked in trunks for their journey home.

"We join today at the Seat of the Sea to commit the Lady Leana of House Velaryon to the eternal waters, the dominion of the Merling King where He will guard her for all days to come. As she sets to sea for her final voyage, the Lady Laena leaves two true-born daughters on the shore. Though their mother will not return from her voyage, they will all remain bound together in blood.

"Salt courses through Velaryon blood. Ours runs thick."   Vaemond Velaryon spoke heatedly, barely controlling the rage that seemed to course through him, just like the salt in his blood. Rheanyra held her two boys close and Maella felt her mother lace her hand with hers. Her father stood beside them, eyes narrowed against the prevailing wind, face pensive.  "Ours runs true. And ours must never thin." Deamon Targaryen chuckled lightly at that statement, for all to hear. Maella watched in the interaction with subdued curiosity. Veamond stared towards Rheanyra and her brown haired boys.

"My gentle niece," He continued on in High Valyrian as Lady Laena's coffin was prepared for it's fateful decent into the sea. "May the winds be as strong as your back, your seas as calm as your spirit, and your nets be as full as your heart."

Maella glanced to her cousins, Rhaena and Baela Targaryen. The clung to their grandmother, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. They met her violet eyes, and she gave them a soft smile. They tried to smile in return, but it didn't reach their eyes. It saddened her that Prince Daemon did not try to console them, as her father would have. The thought of her mother's death made her heart explode, grip tightening on her mother's hand. She squeezed her eyes shut, the ominous thought fleeing from her mind.

"From the sea we come. To the sea we shall return." And with those final words, the stone coffin with a face carved in the princess's likeness, sank to the bottom of the ocean, resting in front of Driftmark. Lady Laena had always wished for her children to brought into the world in Castle Driftmark, and now she had been returned there, the same place of her birth. It came full circle, as many things did in the realm governed by unconquerable fate.
