Battery: The battery includes two baseball players, the pitcher and the catcher. A pitcher and catcher from the same team are known as "battery mates."

The look on Joey's face when he caught me staring at him killed me. And it distracted me enough for me to almost take a baseball to the face before I caught it at the last second.
"Stop staring before you actually get hurt," Marcus, who agreed to help me practice before the game. Even though he's on the other team, we always practice with one another since I'm a pitcher and he's a catcher.
Plus the codes I'm using with him will not be the ones I will be using during a scrimmage. Can't let him think he has an advantage or anything.
"Sorry, I've just never seen Coach actually chew someone out like that," I said before setting up another pitch for him.
We continue to toss back and forth before Coach decided that everyone has practiced enough-we only had ten minutes-before telling us that we're starting the scrimmage now.
"Everyone to your dugouts except for the team captains, we're settling this coin toss style," Coach's loud voice startled half the team but I've already grown used to it.
Joey refused to make eye contact even though we were standing directly in front of each other, I can tell that he's still stuck on the late incident but I hope it doesn't get in the way of whatever is going on between us.
If there's even an "us."
"Alright boys, you know how a coin toss works, at least I hope you do," Coach muttered that last part under his breath, earning two stink eyes from Joey and I. "Call it in the air," he said, completely ignoring all of the nasty looks.
The coin goes up.
"Heads."
"Heads."
Joey and I's gazes snapped to one another after calling the exact same side. Coach gives us and odd look before sighing.
"Reid called it first, you want to be home or away?" He asked, pointing the question at Joey, who was still starting at me, snaping him out of the daze he was very obviously in.
"Oh- uh.. I guess I'll do home," Joey muttered before turning away to go to his dugout.
Giving himself to pitch first. Damnit, that was a smart move, I know because I would have made the same one.

Coach already set up the line-ups for each teams-which I studied thoroughly-so I know where in the line up Sammy will be, luckily he's not first so I have a solid two batter trial run before I have to face him.
Fortunately for me, Spencer was on my team so I at least had one friend who has my back when I need it. Especially since I'm on the verge of some kind of panic attack; who knew that having a crush on something would lead to a whole system breakdown. Hell, I was late to practice for the first time in my life. All because of a cute boy with pretty eyes a curly hair.
Now, I'm not going to just blame Sammy for all my problems because lord knows they started before I even met him, but I still can't help but feel scared of what pursuing a relationship with him could do to my life.
Before I fall further down this rabbit hole my mind has taken me into, Coach's whistle cuts off my thought process.
The scrimmage is starting, it's go time.
