As they caught their breath in the deserted alleyway, Lyra couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. She kept looking over her shoulder, expecting to see a Rykhard guard lurking in the shadows.
Mira noticed her unease and placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "We're safe for now, Lyra. We have allies who are loyal to us."
But Lyra's instincts were proven right when they received a message from an unknown sender. "You're fools for thinking you can take down the Rykhards," it read. "I'll make sure you never succeed."
Kael's face darkened as he read the message. "This is no ordinary traitor," he said. "This is someone who knows our plans."
Kaidën's eyes narrowed. "I think I know who it might be," he said. "Someone who's been acting suspiciously lately."
Mira's eyes widened in shock. "Who is it?"
Kaidën hesitated before speaking. "It's Eira, Mira's sister."
Lyra felt a wave of shock wash over her. She had trusted Eira, considered her a friend.
Mira's face was white with rage. "I'll kill her," she spat. "She'll pay for her betrayal."
But Lyra knew they couldn't act rashly. They needed to gather evidence, make sure they had the right person.
"Let's investigate," she said. "We can't assume it's Eira without proof."
Kael nodded in agreement. "You're right, Lyra. We need to be sure."
As they began their investigation, Lyra couldn't help but wonder if they would ever be able to trust anyone again.
As they investigated, they discovered that Eira had been acting strangely in the days leading up to their escape. She had been seen talking to Rykhard guards and had been absent from important meetings.
Mira's eyes narrowed. "I knew something was off about her," she said. "But I never thought she'd betray us like this."
Kael's face was grim. "We need to confront her," he said. "Find out what she knows and who she's working with."
Lyra nodded. "Let's do it," she said. "But we need to be careful. If she's working with the Rykhards, she could be dangerous."
They made their way to Eira's quarters, their hearts pounding with anticipation. When they arrived, they found her packing a bag.
"Where are you going?" Mira demanded.
Eira turned to face them, a sly smile spreading across her face. "I'm leaving," she said. "I've had enough of this rebellion."
Kael's eyes narrowed. "What do you know about the Rykhards' plans?" he asked.
Eira shrugged. "I know they're going to crush you," she said. "And I'm not going to be here to see it."
Lyra felt a surge of anger. "You're a traitor," she spat. "You're going to pay for what you've done."
But before they could react, Eira pulled out a small vial of liquid and threw it at them. The room erupted into chaos as the liquid splashed everywhere, releasing a cloud of noxious gas.
"Run!" Kael shouted, grabbing Lyra's arm.
They stumbled out of the room, gasping for air. But as they looked back, they saw Eira standing in the doorway, a triumphant smile on her face.
"You'll never stop the Rykhards," she shouted. "They'll always win!"
And with that, she disappeared into the shadows, leaving Lyra and her friends to wonder what other dangers lay ahead.
