Lyra felt like her world was crumbling around her. She couldn't believe that her father, the man she had always admired and respected, was capable of such treachery.
"Father, how could you?" Lyra asked again, her voice shaking with emotion.
Ryker Rykhard's expression softened slightly, and for a moment, Lyra saw a glimmer of the man she once knew.
"I did it for us, Lyra," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I did it to protect our family, our legacy. I knew it was a risk, but I thought it was worth it."
Lyra shook her head, trying to understand. "But why didn't you tell me? Why did you keep it a secret?"
Ryker Rykhard sighed, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "I was ashamed, Lyra. I was afraid of losing your respect, your love. I didn't want you to know the truth about me."
Lyra felt a pang of sadness, seeing her father like this. She knew she had to make a choice, to either forgive him or turn her back on him forever.
Lyra took a deep breath, trying to process her emotions. She wanted to forgive her father, to understand him, but a part of her was still angry and hurt.
"Father, I need time to think," Lyra said finally, her voice firm. "I need to understand why you did what you did."
Ryker Rykhard nodded, his eyes filled with a mix of sadness and relief. "I understand, Lyra. Take all the time you need. But know this - I love you, and I would do anything to protect you."
Lyra nodded, feeling a lump form in her throat. She turned to leave, but then turned back to her father.
"Father, one more thing," Lyra said, her voice firm. "If you're working with the empire, then you need to tell me what their plan is. What are they going to do next?"
Ryker Rykhard hesitated, looking around nervously. "I don't know if I should, Lyra. I don't want to put you in danger."
Lyra's eyes narrowed. "Tell me, Father. I need to know."
Ryker Rykhard sighed, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "Very well, Lyra. But you have to promise me one thing - you have to promise me you'll be careful."
Lyra nodded, her heart racing with anticipation. "I promise, Father. Now tell me."
Ryker Rykhard took a deep breath before speaking. "The empire's plan is to attack the rebellion's stronghold in three days' time. They have gathered a massive army and are confident of victory."
Lyra's eyes widened in shock. "Three days? That's not much time."
Ryker Rykhard nodded. "I know, Lyra. But I had to tell you. I couldn't keep it a secret any longer."
Lyra nodded, her mind racing with plans. "Thank you, Father. I won't forget this."
Ryker Rykhard's eyes filled with tears. "I'm sorry, Lyra. I'm so sorry for everything."
Lyra smiled, feeling a sense of forgiveness wash over her. "I forgive you, Father. But now, I have to go. I have to warn the rebellion."
Ryker Rykhard nodded, his face set in determination. "I'll come with you, Lyra. I'll fight with you."
Lyra's eyes widened in surprise. "Father, no. You can't."
Ryker Rykhard's expression turned stubborn. "I can, Lyra. And I will. I'll make up for my mistakes, starting now."
Lyra hesitated, unsure of what to say. She didn't want her father to put himself in danger, but at the same time, she knew that he needed to make amends.
"Father, I don't know..." Lyra started to say, but Ryker Rykhard cut her off.
"Lyra, I'm coming with you. I'll fight for the rebellion, and I'll help you defeat the empire. It's the least I can do."
Lyra nodded, seeing the determination in her father's eyes. "Okay, Father. Let's go."
Together, Lyra, Ryker Rykhard, Kaiden, and Arin set out to warn the rebellion about the empire's plan. They rode through the night, their horses' hooves pounding against the ground.
As they approached the rebellion's stronghold, Lyra could see that something was wrong. The gates were open, and there were no guards in sight.
"Something's wrong," Lyra said, her voice low. "Let's be careful."
Ryker Rykhard nodded, his hand on the hilt of his sword. "I'll take point. Follow me."
As they entered the stronghold, Lyra saw that it was deserted. There was no one in sight, and the only sound was the creaking of the old wooden buildings.
"Where is everyone?" Lyra asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Ryker Rykhard shook his head. "I don't know, but I don't like it. Let's keep moving."
They moved deeper into the stronghold, their senses on high alert. Suddenly, they heard a noise behind them.
"Get down!" Kaiden shouted, pulling Lyra to the ground.
Arin drew his sword, ready to defend them. Ryker Rykhard stood beside him, his eyes fixed on the entrance.
A figure emerged from the shadows. It was a woman, dressed in a rebellion uniform.
"Please, you have to help me," she said, her eyes wild with fear. "The empire has taken over the stronghold. They're holding our people captive."
Lyra's heart sank. She knew they had to act fast.
"What's your name?" Lyra asked, trying to stay calm.
"I'm Maya," the woman replied. "I was able to escape, but I don't know how much longer I can keep hiding."
