Lyra sat at her desk, the meeting with the board members still fresh in her mind. She had proven her leadership, but the mysterious letter lingered in her thoughts.
She called up the letter on her comms device, the words flashing on the screen:
"Lyra Rykhard,
You think you're in control, but you're not. Your family's secrets will be your downfall. Meet me at the old warehouse at midnight if you want to know the truth.
A friend"
Lyra's eyes narrowed. Who was this person, and what did they know about her family's secrets? She tried to brush it off as a prank, but the words lingered in her mind.
Just then, Rachel walked in, a look of concern on her face. "Lyra, I couldn't help but notice the letter. Do you know who sent it?"
Lyra hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. "No, I don't. But I'll take care of it."
Rachel nodded, but Lyra could see the doubt in her eyes.
As the day went on, Lyra couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. She tried to focus on work, but her mind kept wandering back to the letter.
At midnight, she found herself standing outside the old warehouse, her heart pounding in her chest. Who was this person, and what did they want from her?
....
As Lyra entered the warehouse, a figure emerged from the shadows. He was tall, with piercing blue eyes that seemed to see right through her. His dark hair was messy, and his jawline was sharp, giving him a rugged appearance.
"Who are you?" Lyra demanded, her hand on the dagger she wore at her waist. She tried to keep her voice steady, but her heart was racing.
"My name is Kael," the figure replied, his voice low and gravelly. "And I'm here to tell you the truth about your family's secrets."
Lyra's eyes narrowed. "What secrets?"
Kael smiled, a cold, calculating smile. "The secrets of the Rykhard family's power. The secrets of the Dark World."
Lyra's heart skipped a beat. How did this man know about the Dark World? Only a handful of people knew about the Rykhard family's involvement in the Dark World.
"What do you know?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kael took a step closer, his eyes glinting in the dim light. "I know that your family's power comes from a dark source. A source that will destroy everything you hold dear."
Lyra's hand tightened on her dagger. She didn't know what to believe. Part of her wanted to attack Kael, to silence him forever. But another part of her wanted to hear more, to know the truth.
"Why are you telling me this?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.
Kael's smile grew wider. "Because, Lyra Rykhard, you have a choice to make. You can continue down the path of destruction, or you can forge a new path. A path of light."
And then, just as suddenly, Kael vanished into thin air.
Lyra was left standing alone in the warehouse, wondering if she had imagined the whole thing.
But she knew she hadn't. She knew that Kael had told her the truth.
