CHAPTER SIX: "Meet me at Midnight"

•••

Hongjoong POV:

After the revelation of Mingyu's true desire about why I was hired for the assignment about Seonghwa last night, my mind was running rampant the rest of the night, so much so that I barely had any sleep. All I could do was wonder how to go about this entire situation, especially when I had a sinking feeling about a possible second encounter very soon with the targeted male.

The fated meeting occurred on a bleak Thursday night and the meeting with Mingyu happened last night. Now, I was due to attend yet another event tonight that the Private investigator agency was hosting for not only the employees, but also the specialized employers who hired such services on a consistent basis: The Elites. It was clear that Mingyu would be attending, along with the other members of the club, but part of me internally hoped that he wouldn't be there for his own good, as there would be too many people around to hide from.

Wait...Why do I care about what happens to him? He means nothing to me...

Ignoring the physical attraction that instantly sparked the moment the two of us made close contact was hard, something I hadn't felt towards someone ever before. The feeling was so strong and sudden, and I couldn't help but wonder if maybe the feeling was mutual. The mere fact that despite the normal nature of vampires who sought out to seek humans for their personal supply of substance, he granted me mercy and safety by leaving me at the front door of my home. The behavior to others would be considered abnormal, but he himself was already someone who defied logic anyway.

It was nearing six in the evening and the event was scheduled to begin at eight, therefore leaving me barely an hour to get ready and be there on time. Sighing to myself, I got up from the bed already fully dressed and pulled open my desk drawer, feeling warmth flutter in my chest at the sight of tie still intact inside. Beside it rested the timepiece watch, two items that were significant to hold onto in their own ways. With a gentle brush my finger, I grazed the tie with a soft smile before grabbing the timepiece, placing it into my suit jacket pocket. The antique was one that had intricate detail in the carvings of gold, something that was considered to be crafted years ahead of its actual time. It only took a quick glance for me to take notice of its charm, but due to the ever so high price value, I accepted my defeat to merely observing from a distance for such a limited time. It was clear that the piece of history would be sold in an instant, so I cherished the little moment I had to even witness such a spectacle of craftsmanship.

Little did I know, I would be the one to actually own it in the end...

Grabbing my keys and few belongings, I stepped out the apartment and with a quick lock, made my way over to the car to prepare to drive. However, upon reaching the driver's side of the door, I spotted a note on the windshield. Slowly looking around for any sign of someone watching, I pulled out my handkerchief and carefully grabbed the note, tentatively opening it with caution as I read the message inside.
