CHAPTER EIGHT: "The Anticipated Beginning"
•••
Hongjoong POV:
The event night seemed to drag on slowly, and no matter how hard I would try find and pull Seonghwa aside for a minute, he would somehow find a was to escape my grasp. Whether it would be subtle brushes of fingertips or barely audible whispers against my ear, he was clearly enjoying the torture he dealt against me. Amidst the crowd full of people who maintain lighthearted conversation and laughter, there was tension that enveloped the two of us that only intensified each passing minute.
Biting my lip, I watched as from a distance, Seonghwa stood behind Mr. Choi while he was engrossed in conversation with another Elite. As if he could feel my eyes on him, Seonghwa looked back at me with a playful smirk before refocusing his attention on the figure in front of him.
"Ya, Hongjoong." Mingi raised a brow curiously. "You good?"
"Never better."
Minho shook his head. "I think this entire event is getting on all of our nerves, look," he pointed to one of our coworkers, "it's clear as ever that this is annoyingly difficult. Yeonjun is napping in a corner, for fucks sake."
With a heavy sigh, I downed my glass water before checking my phone for the time, noticing that it was thirty minutes before midnight. In my mind, I had about ten minutes of leisure before having to meet the male at the alleyway. However, my mind wondered about if he truly wanted to keep his part of the message.
There's no way he'll be able to beat me there..
Clearing my throat, I granted the two males a polite smile. "I'm going to make my leave now...there's nothing really pertinent about staying."
Mingi quickly finished his glass of whiskey and nodded. "Good shit. You leave first, and then we can follow after."
Nodding in agreement, I made my way through the crowd towards the event doors, a mixed feeling of nervousness and excitement growing within me as the desired meeting was coming to close. All I could think about was seeing him up close again, my mind mentally preparing questions for the male to answer and soothe me of any doubts.
As I reached the doorway, however, Mingyu tapped my shoulder with a smile. "Leaving so soon?"
"Unfortunately, I have a prior engagement to attend to...my apologies." I said with a forced smile.
From the corner of my eye, I could see Seonghwa's intense glare in my direction, but instead of it being on me, it was on Mingyu. Mingyu chuckled and shook his head, "I knew someone like you couldn't have been single. Well...don't let me hold you any longer. Whoever it is, must be a lucky man."
