Unexpected Love in the Aquarium

Chapter 14

He used a key to open the door, ear twitching as he listened to Sonic. "That's interesting, most humans and mobians skip over the small details." Shadow says, leading the way inside, the kitchen was right by the door and the living room right next to it through the living room was the bedroom and bathroom on one side. Sonic walk through the door looking everywhere and admire the place, even though it's small it's still home "That's what they missed out, is the little detail in our daily lives. We should appreciate it a little more than we think we should."  He said, going to the couch and run his fingers on the leather.  Shadow sets the keys down on the island of the kitchen. "I like to think I take in the small details." He comes over in the living room, sitting down on the couch with a  huff. Working 12 hours shifts 5 days a week was tough on him.

Sonic soften his eyes and sat down next to him "looking after me is hard work huh?" He said, wanting to massage his shoulders to at least release some tension in his muscles "Sorry if it is. Sea creatures are a lot of work to take care of" He gives a light shake of his head, letting Sonic massage him if he wanted. "This has been one of the best jobs I've had, a lot of other ones are even more labor work. I also struggle with keeping jobs." Shadow admits. Sonic rub his shoulders, and asked curiously "how does working is? If I'm going to stay here, I want to at least put in my part. Don't worry, I won't get a job that I will have to be in water" he chuckled, smiling a little seeing him relaxing.

Shadow let himself lean back into the touch, it was nice to relieve some of the tention in his shoulders. "I'll see about getting you a job, I have a friend. Her names Rouge and she owns a cafe in town, I bet I could get you a job there." He smiles slightly, Rough would so love to hang out with Sonic as he had mentioned the merhog to her. Sonic smiled more at this and asked about Rouge "Who is this rouge gal? What is she like?" He stop and run his fingers in his quills to massage through them, loving the idea of helping Shadow so he wouldn't be such a leach talk about the irony. Shasdow opened his mouth to reply but he quickly shut it, just catching a moan as his quills were masaged.

He hadn't been touched back there by someone before so it felt very sensitive, after a moment  he spoke up as he got in control of his voice. "She a bat mobian, my only friend out here besides you now. She can be a little bit... much but she doesn't mean anything by it. I'll likely get fired since the aquarium 'lost' their merhog so I'll work at the cafe with you if I can get her to let me, shes the main manager there but the owner is Vanilla. I don't really know her." Sonic stop and looked down regretting to leave the aquarium "sorry..I didn't think about your job...if, I need to I could go back... I hate making people do something for me if it means losing the others" He said in a low sad tone, he just so happy to get out there before infinite could do something to him.

Shadow turned to look at him, brows knitted as there was no way he'd want Sonic to go back. "There's no need for that. Just...seeing the way he shocked you. I can't imagine what else he had in store for you, so no. You'll be staying here." He said it like a demand, bringing a hand up to cup Sonic's cheek. Sonic looked at him with tears running down his cheek, thanking him in his head over and over. How can Sonic have such a wonderful person to look after him "Sorry, I-I didn't want t-to be such a burden to you...I thank you..." He tried to stop crying but it won't stop.

He was absolutely shocked to see Sonic start crying, eyes widening as he wasn't the best with emotions. "Hey...it's okay. You didn't deserve what they were doing to you there, you're hardly a burden...I consider you a...friend." Shadow reassured him, pulling him into a hug as he didn't know how to get him to stop crying. Sonic hugged him tight and started to calm down by just being next to him, he sniffles and said, "Thank you, for being my good friend, along with Tails and Chip" he hiccups while calming down by laying  his head on his shoulder and began feeling sleepy by crying so much.

Shadow rubs his back as he calms down, ear twitching as he noticed the other getting tired. "Of course, let's get you to bed." He picks him up easily, unlike how hard it was to pick him up with the heavy tail. Shadow carried him in the king sized bed that was so comfy with fluffy pillows and blankets. Sonic tried to stay awake because he wants to spend the whole day with him to show him how much he has done for him but the sleep is kicking him so he stop fighting and feel asleep feeling the cool and fluffy bed he's on. He snores lightly.  Shadow noticed how quick the other fell asleep, leaving the room with the door cracked as he went to go make some phone calls. His phone got a text from infinite notifying of the disappearance of Sonic and that he was fired until further notice. He didn't care, instead sitting on the couch and calling Rouge.

"Hey do you have some spots for workers?" "Spots? As in plural? Don't tell me you actually went through with the plan hun." "he needed to get out of there, plus he's somewhat mobain now with his legs. So, any spots?" "I'll see what I can do for ya, come in tomorrow" Shadow hung up after that, resting his eyes as he eventually fell asleep on the couch. Tails texted Shadow about what happened that Shadow already knew but tells him to be careful if infinite tries to find Sonic and to make sure to protect Sonic. Shadow glances at the text and huffs, already doing that. He wouldn't let them get their hands on Sonic. Still he fell right back asleep until tomorrow morning.

This is the end. Sonic and Shadow having the best of life together and who knows if they are going to be together? You can use your imagination on the rest of their lives.
