I sank down onto the bed, feeling the weight of my new life pressing down on me. I was a prisoner in a beautiful golden cage, stuck between the cold walls of this estate and the watchful eye of Matteo. But as I stared up at the ceiling, I felt a familiar determination rise within me. I may be trapped, but I was not defeated.

I would find a way to find small moments of freedom and independence within the confines of my new life. And who knows, perhaps I would even uncover the true person behind the cold exterior of Matteo Moretti.

With newfound resolve, I rose from the bed and went to wash my face, the cool water a small comfort against the heat of my anxiety. I would face whatever challenges this life threw my way, whether it be the disapproving looks of the servants or the piercing gaze of Matteo himself. I was determined to survive and maybe, just maybe, to find a way to thrive.

As I wiped my face dry, I stared at my reflection in the mirror, taking in my determined expression. This marriage was far from ideal, but I was not about to let it break me. I would take each day as it came, searching for opportunities to find my own place in this world.

With renewed determination, I turned away from the mirror and began to get ready for bed, feeling as if I was preparing for a battle rather than a peaceful night's sleep. But as I laid me head on the pillow, I couldn't help but wonder what tomorrow would bring.

Would Matteo continue to exert his control over me, or would he surprise me with unexpected kindness? Would the servants continue to whisper behind my back, or would they finally accept me as part of the family? These thoughts consumed my mind as I drifted off to sleep, the sound of the ticking clocks a constant reminder of the fleeting nature of time.

But even in my dreams, I couldn't escape the reality of my situation. The walls of the estate seemed to close in on me, trapping me in a world where I was constantly watched and judged. As I tossed and turned in my sleep, I couldn't help but feel like a caged bird, longing to spread my wings and fly.

But then, just as I was about to give into despair, I felt a hand gently shake my shoulder. "Cara mia," a familiar voice whispered beside me. I opened my eyes to see Matteo standing over me, his expression softer than I had ever seen it.

"You were having a nightmare," he said, his voice gentle. "It's alright now, everything is okay." I blinked up at him in surprise, unsure if I was still dreaming or if this was really happening. Matteo continued to stroke my hair soothingly.

"I couldn't bear to hear you tossing and turning in your sleep," he said softly. "I wanted to make sure you were okay." I sat up in bed, feeling a mix of confusion and gratitude. This unexpected display of kindness was completely unexpected from the man I thought I knew.

"Thank you," I whispered, still not sure how to react to his sudden change in behavior. Matteo nodded, a small smile playing at the corner of his mouth. "You're welcome," he said, sitting down on the edge of the bed. "Now try to get some rest. You need your strength to face the challenges of tomorrow."

With that, he leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on my forehead before standing up and walking out of the room. I sat there for a moment, still reeling from his unexpected display of affection.

As I lay back down in bed, my mind raced with questions. Was this a ploy to manipulate me, or did Matteo truly care for me in some small way? I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts. Whatever the reason for his actions, I knew that I needed to stay on guard, even if it meant denying myself the comfort of a warm embrace in the night.

I closed my eyes and forced myself to breathe slowly and deeply, hoping that sleep would finally take hold. But even as I drifted off to sleep, I couldn't shake the feeling that Matteo's unexpected kindness was only the beginning of a much more complicated journey.

The next morning, I awoke to the bright sunlight streaming through the windows. I sat up in bed, feeling a sense of unease settle over me. The events of the previous night had left me feeling confused and unsettled. I took a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever the day ahead might bring.

I got out of bed and made my way to the bathroom, going through my morning routine on autopilot. As I washed my face and brushed my teeth, I couldn't help but wonder what Matteo's demeanor would be like today. Would he continue to treat me with unexpected kindness, or would he return to his cold and detached persona?

I took a deep breath and tried to push the thoughts from my mind. Whatever the day brought, I knew that I needed to stay strong and focused. As I walked out of the bathroom, I noticed a small vase of flowers sitting on my dresser. I walked over and picked up the note that was resting on the vase.

The note was written in Matteo's familiar handwriting, and it simply said, "For my beautiful wife. - M." I felt a small flicker of warmth in my chest as I read the words, but I quickly pushed the feeling down, reminding myself that Matteo's kindness could be just another way to manipulate me.

I walk out of the room to find Matteo sitting on the couch "What was that?" I asked.
Matteo looks up at me, a small smile playing at the corner of his mouth. "Ah, you've discovered my little surprise," he says, gesturing towards the vase of flowers. "Do you like them? I thought they would brighten up the room."

"You're intriguing me I thought that you hated me, just like I do" I respond.
