It was a warm August day. You and Eliza were playing happily in the small playroom. You both sat at a small table with your respective stuffed animals, coloring pictures together. Eliza was currently coloring in a unicorn while you were coloring on a blank sheet. You both sat there quietly until your aunt entered the room.
"There are my two favorite flowers. May I join you both?" Gothel asked, sitting between you both.
"Look, mama!" Eliza said with a smile, holding up her scribbled-in unicorn.
"That looks lovely, Eliza." Gothel complimented.
"Mine's cooler," you said, showing her a sketch of the castle. "It's the castle."
"It's beautiful (Y/N), you both are very talented artists," she said, patting you both on the head. You both smiled, beaming with pride. "I have some news to share with you both." Gothel quickly changed the subject. "We've decided it's time for you two to start sharing a room."
"What?" you both exclaimed. Though Eliza was more excited and you were more shocked.
Gothel looked at you with a smile "Eliza is getting bigger, and doesn't need her crib anymore. It's time we set her up in your room."
"Yay!" Eliza said with a smile. "Big bed with sissy!"
"But it's my room, can't she get her own room?" you said with a frown. Trying to think of any way to get out of sharing your space. You knew your sister all too well, she was loud, messy, and didn't know boundaries.
"As much as we would love for you two to have your own space, we don't have the room in the castle. But you both will still have your own space, you'll each get half of the room." Gothel explained as she placed a comforting hand on your shoulder. "I know this is a big change, but think about all the fun and bonding time you both will have."
"No, I don't want to share my room," you shouted, getting up from your picture and racing back to your room. Gothel tried to call after you but you didn't listen. You raced down the halls to your bedroom, wishing to trap yourself inside. But as you entered, you found your room was already being rearranged.
Your uncles Jasper and Foulfellow were setting up Eliza's bed on the side of the room. Frollo was trying to set up Eliza's Dresser. And Hades and Gaston were trying to move your items to your side of the room.
"My room!" you exclaimed as you entered.
"Hey, (Y/N) what do you think?" Gaston asked as he sat down at your small desk on your side of the room.
You watched for a moment at the chaos. Tears in your eyes as stuff was being moved around or set up. This was supposed to be your room, why didn't you get a say in this? You glanced over at your side of the room. Your desk, stool, bookshelf, dresser, and toybox had all been moved, all that was left was your bed. You looked over at the lonesome window in the middle of your room, your bed lying underneath it. You raced over and tossed yourself on top of it, hoping that if you stayed on it that wouldn't move it.
"Oh come on (Y/N), you're gonna love sharing a room," Jasper said from Eliza's new bed.
"Ya, it will be like having a sleepover every night," Fowfellow added.
"It's better than being trapped in your father's stomach with 7 brothers and sisters." Hades jokes. Everyone turned to glare at him to which he put his hands up in defense "What, it's the truth."
You glanced up to see both Hades and Gaston advanced towards your bed. You flopped face-first into your pillow, your fingers wrapping around the mattress as you screamed. "STOP! MY ROOM!" Tears flowed onto your pillow as you kicked your legs wildly.
"Enough (Y/N)" Frollo shouted, having finished putting Eliza's dresser together. He walked over to where you lay. His voice was stern yet kind. "I know this is hard for you, but throwing a tantrum isn't gonna do anything." He then lifted you from your bed so that Gaston and Hades could move it.
"No!" you shouted as they lifted it and began moving it over your side of the room. You squirmed in your uncle's grasp, kicking and screaming for them to stop, but they didn't. It was then that Gothel entered the room holding Eliza in her arms.
"Sis sad?" Eliza questioned, noticing your distress.
"She's just having a hard time adjusting, but she'll get used to it," Gothel said as she and Eliza got closer.
Frollo sat you on your feet before getting down to your level. "(Y/N) We know this is hard for you, but it is happening whether you like it or not. You and Eliza are gonna have to learn to share and get along."
Your face was now red and puffy. You sniffed as you tried to convey your worries. "But I don't want to share. She gonna make a mess, touch my stuff, and-"
"And will make sure she knows the rules." Gothel said as she placed Eliza down, also getting onto your level "She may touch your thing after first, yes, but you're gonna help her know what not to touch and how to keep your shared space clean."
"But I want my own room!" you screamed, tears flowing down your eyes.
Gothel sighed as she placed her comforting hands on your shoulder. "We know this is a lot to take in, which is why we're letting the tantrum slide. But there's not much we can do in this situation." she tried to dry your tears away with one of her hands. "We sometimes have to do things we don't want to do, but will make it work. We always do."
You sniffed "I guess."
"That's the spirit," Gothel said as she stood. As she did Foulfellow and Jasper stood, having finally finished up the toddler bed. "Alright, Eliza's bed is finished," Foulfellow said.
"Same with (Y/N)." Hades said as he and Gaston set down the bed.
"Yay, big bed!" Eliza said as she rushed over to her side. She climbed up on it and began bouncing up and down as if it were a trampoline. Everyone laughed in amusement but you. You did not like this room assignment one bit, and you had a feeling you were never gonna like it.
Later that evening, you and Eliza were sent to bed. She had gone to bed without a problem. But as night settled in, Eliza began to stare in her sleep. You woke up to her whimpering. Looking over at Eliza, you watched as she tossed and turned in her sleep. You could tell she was in distress by some dream. You flung the blanket off and walked over to your sister's bed. You place a hand on her shoulder. "Eliza, Eliza woke up. It's just a dream" you whispered.
Eliza woke up startled but quickly calmed down. "(Y/N)?" she questioned sleepily as she sat up. She glanced around the room "Where's Mama and Dada?"
"You're in my room now, remember?" you whispered.
Eliza remained silent as a sad expression appeared on her face. She clutched Miss Rabbit in her arms, and she slowly nodded. You could tell she was uncomfortable and scared. You contemplated getting one of your aunts or uncles, but another idea popped into your head. "Do you want me to sleep with you?"
Eliza looked up at you with tired, scared eyes. She nodded, pulling the blanket back. You climbed into the bed next to her. It was small, but you both managed to fit. As you both lay down, Eliza snuggled up next to you. You wrapped an arm around her. It wasn't long till you both were asleep. As you shut your eyes, you smiled, maybe you could make this shared room thing work.
