How she did it, she doesn't know, but Siya found herself wheeling the unconscious body of the bleeding man on a stretcher towards the ER with the other staff of the hospital, zooming past various people-patients, their guardians, nurses, ward boys, etc.
"Dr. Arora, we will manage it" said Dr. Randhawa, senior trauma specialist.
She nodded. Her eyes kept darting to the closed curtains where that unknown man was.
"I can join-" she tried to say.
But Dr. Randhawa patted her back.
"You've already served a long shift. Thanks for bringing the patient here, if the need arises, we will call you. For now, you can go home. You have a duty tomorrow as well".
Siya nodded, understanding. With one last glance at the man, she turned on her heels and walked out of the hospital. It wasn't rush hour right now. Good.

The moment she opened the door to her apartment, Siya stumbled backwards as someone grabbed her in the middle with the force of a small bull.
"Oof!" she gasped, looking down at her four year old son, who was hugging her like his life depended on it.
She smiled and picked him up, twirling him in the air. He giggled loudly, flailing his little chubby hands around, ultimately wrapping them around his mama's neck."Aww, my baby" Siya cooed. "Did you miss mama this much?"
Yuvan nodded and put his head on her shoulder.
"He has been cranky all day, didi" came a tired voice. Siya's eyes went to another woman wearing a kurti, who had just emerged from the bathroom.
"Why? Is he ill?" Siya asked, worried, immediately checking his forehead for anh signs of fever. Yuvan frowned, displeased.
His nanny chuckled.
"He is fine, didi. He has only been missing you, that's all".
Realisation dawned on Siya and she felt guilty for leaving her son for so long.
"Mama is really sorry, Yuvi" she muttered. Yuvan cupped her cheeks and kissed her sloppily. She smiled and kissed him back on his forehead. He clapped his hands.
"I'll be taking my leave then didi" said his nanny.
Siya nodded.
"Come early tomorrow, Geeta didi. I might have to leave earlier than usual".
Geeta nodded and left, leaving Siya alone with her little son in her apartment.
"Let's have a movie night?" Siya suggested, who nodded eagerly.
Selecting the movie and getting under the duvet after having dinner, they settled down to watch the film.
It was already 12 am, but Siya knew thay Yuvi will be asleep before the movie was even done with its opening scene. Surely, she was right.
She kissed his forehead and tucked him in as he slept. Switching off the film, she went to do her regular night skin care routine. While applying moisturizer, her mind went to the man whom she had saved today. Or had she? What was his condition? Will he live?
Shaking her head and scolding herself for thinking about work at home, she climbed on the bed beside her son and turned the lamps off.

"And....this is the one I chose!" Ridhi said excitedly as she showed her co-nurses her wedding lehenga.
"Wow!"
"That's so beautiful!"
Exclaimed her female coworkers. Siya, who was passing by, craned her neck and saw it too. It really was pretty.
"You're getting married, Ridhi?" Siya asked, stopping beside her. Ridhi turned to look at her and nodded.
"Yes, in January next year" she admitted.
"Congrats on your wedding" Siya said, genuinely happy for her.
"Thank you, Siya didi" she said.
Siya gave her a tight lipped smile and slipped pass them.
No, don't you think about it.
She repeated that sentence like a mantra inside her head, not seeing where she was going.
She wrenched open a door and slammed it shut behind her, breathing heavily. She placed a palm on her racing heart.
It's been years, yet she is not over it.
She shook her head. They weren't worth it. She tied her hair into a high ponytail, brushing her dark strands away from her face.
That was when she saw him.
The man-whom she had saved the previous night. He was lying on a bed, probably unconscious.
Well, it looked like he was alive after all. Releasing a breath Siya didn't know she was holding, she smiled as she looked at his figure on the bed.
Who had stabbed him like that? She wondered and felt a chill run down her spine.
That's for the police to investigate. Nothing for her to lose sleep about. She turned on her heels and stepped out of the door, gently shutting it behind her.
Because her back was turned, she failed to see how the man she had assumed was unconscious was staring at her, his eyes trailing down her body as she disappeared from his sight.
