"Thanks for the purchase," said the cashier as Siya walked out of the drug store, with a plastic bag full of medicines in hand.
It had been a week since her fateful meeting with the father of her son, at her hospital at the most ungodly of times in the most unanticipated of situations.
She had thought there was going to be a scandal because of the murder of a patient within the hospital, with the press flooding in, news channels blowing up and her license being cancelled. Surprisingly, none of those happened. In fact, nothing happened.
It was as if the man didn't die at all. His body was no where to be found.
Siya ran a hand through her hair, sighing. She was pissed.
Her carefully planned and crafted life took a turn so suddenly and so unexpectedly, that her years of efforts went down the drain with the return of one person.
Maybe...just maybe, letting him meet Yuvan wasn't such a bad idea? I mean, Yuvan was his son as well, even though she didn't even know his name yet.
That startled a laugh out of her lips, despite herself. She didn't know the name of the father of her son. Great.
But no, she couldn't do that. What if...he took him away from her? She would lose her reason to live then.
"Siya!"
Siya stopped. She turned around to see her friend, Ishqi Mehra, running up to her.
"What's the matter?" Siya asked, a bit stunned. Ishqi paused to collect her breath.
"Siya, I'm so sorry to ask you this but-"
"Is everything alright?" Siya cut her off, concerned. Ishqi waved her hand impatiently.
"Yes and no," she said. "Just...listen, will you?"
Siya pursed her lips, nodding.
"So, I need a favour to ask of you," she continued, rubbing her palms together.
"What?"
"I...kind of, need you to go on a blind date instead of me," she finished.
"WHAT?"
"I know, I know," Ishqi muttered, looking helpless. "My father set me up with the son of the Chairman of RS Enterprises and I L.O.A.T.H that guy," she said, spelling out the word "loath" while air quoting it.
"Woah woah, calm down, girl" Siya interrupted, trying hard to keep up.
"So you want me to pretend to be you to your date? What the hell?"Ishqi joined her hands in front of her in a praying gesture.
"Please, I'll treat you to your favorite cheesecake," she tried to bribe her, "and also look after Yuvi for a week straight, no questions asked. You just need to break the engagement, anyhow".
Siya regarded her.
A pause. Then, a long suffering sigh escaped her. Ishqi grinned, knowing that she had won.
"I'll text you the address, darling," she told her, clapping her on the shoulders.
"Don't worry," Ishqi said cheerfully, "you got it, girl".
Siya rolled her eyes.
"Haha, very funny," she snapped, sulking. "Easy for you to say".
And that's how she ended up in front of a five-star, multicuisine restaurant at 7 in the evening, dressed formally. She hadn't been on a date in years, nevermind a blind date.
She entered the restaurant, somewhat unnerved, and searched for her blind date.
She found him in the corner, recognising him from the picture she had seen of him, shown by Ishqi. Taking a deep breath, she approached him.
