Siya's POV:
I hit him on the chest.
He yelped in pain and indignation, letting go of me at once. Damn, did I hit him that hard?
"What the hell is wrong with you?" he growled, rubbing his arm. Drama queen.
I folded my arms.
"The question is, what's wrong with you?"
He raised an eyebrow at my cheek.
"You come back here, after five years, acting as if we know each other so well, and-"
"I mean, don't we?" he interrupted my rant, "know each other really well?"
I gasped in horror.
"No, we do NOT know each other at all" I snapped at him. Surprisingly, I didn't feel scared of him anymore. Maybe the fact that he had just killed a patient in front of me within the hospital premises had slipped my mind.
"And I've work to do, I am on a shift right now" I added, turning on my heels, ready to storm off.
Just as I took one step forward, my foot collided with the gruesome, cold dead body on the floor. I shrieked in surprise, and tripped over the body. Before I could fall on top of it, however, a pair of strong, muscular arms wrapped themselves around my torso, and pulled me up. I closed my eyes at the suddenness of it all, and could feel his breath on my face. I could sense that our faces were only inches away from each other, his strong arms wrapped protectively around me.
"Breathe, jaan" he whispered, tracing soothing patterns on my back. I realised with a jolt that I had in fact, stopped breathing. I gasped, my eyes fluttering open to meet his dark grey ones, which were looking at me emotionlessly. I felt a chill go through my body as I gazed into his intense eyes, which were no more alive than the literal dead man at our feet. Neither of us paid him any attention as we continued to stare at each other, as if the other might disappear if we dared to look away.
"I don't think you understand" he finally broke the silence, the trance we had found ourselves in, after a few minutes, or it may have been hours, or an eternity of sunlight days and stormy nights- I didn't know.
"What?" I breathed.
"The pain, betrayal and agony I suffered after you left that day".
Just like that, the spell was broken, as the walls I had built around myself came crashing down. Like a thunder had suddenly struck me, I jolted, pushing him away from me.
"Well, what else did you expect then?" I said, with more venom than intended. "It was a one night stand, both of us were drunk. Neither of us was in our right minds-"
"I was very much in my right mind when I took you to my hotel that night" he cut me off, striding towards me. I took a step back. He took another step towards me.
"It was only a one night stand" I repeated, as if that would make him stop playing his games. "It meant nothing to me-"
He stopped dead in his tracks.
"-nor should have it meant anything to you" I continued, paying no attention to the fact that his expression had suddenly turned stony. "I never should have gotten drunk that night, heck, I shouldn't have gone to that place in the first place. It was all just a mistake, no strings attached, I regret-"
My rant was cut off as he slammed me into the wall, his eyes gleaming dangerously in the dark, his expression murderous.
"Say that again" he hissed, squeezing my arms. I flinched.
"W-what?" I stammered. Why was I stammering? Because he looked scary right now, my brain supplied. Also the fact he was capable of murder did not help soothe my fear.
"Say that it meant nothing to you. That the time, the night we spent together, the memories we shared, were meaningless for you" he spoke in a low growl. He leaned in, squeezing my arms harder. "SAY IT!"
"NO" I yelled back, taking him by surprise. "It meant nothing to me".
He let go of me, and actually took several steps back. I exhaled heavily, rubbing my sore arms. I glared at him, tears brimming in my eyes. He had no right, no right to...
"Liar" he breathed, his eyes concealing hidden words I could not decipher. "You're lying".
I stood my ground.
"I am not!" I retorted.
"Oh, really?" he countered, mockingly. "Then what about the child?"
It was as if air had been knocked out of my lungs, making it hard for me to breathe. This was the second time Yuvan was brought up in this conversation, and I liked it no more than I did the first time. Trying to calm my racing heart, I decided to play dumb.
"I told you he was adopted" I said sternly.
"You want me to believe that bullshit?" he shouted. It seemed like his patience was running out.
I flinched, taking a step back.
"It's not bullshit!" I screamed. I could not let him find out about Yuvan, even if he already did know of him, I had to do something to make him believe that he was not-
"Do not lie anymore, woman!" he growled. "I know that I have a son".
My legs trembled.
"And he was born from your womb" he finished.
The silence was so heavy that it felt almost illegal to breathe.
"I-" my throat constricted. I felt the hot tears I had been trying so desperately to keep at bay cascading carelessly down my cheeks.
He observed me silently, his gaze making me feel so so small.
"He is all I have" is what I managed to say finally. He stayed silent, waiting for me to continue. I took a great shuddering breath. "After everything that happened, I had given up on life. Then when I got pregnant, I had actually thought of...ending it all, me and...the baby".
His eyes widened in surprise and he opened his mouth to say something. However, I never gave him that chance.
"But he turned out to be a blessing in disguise. He gave me the courage, the support I needed to rebuilt my life. Before I realised it, he had become my everything. He is the reason I am still standing in front of you right now, speaking to you...breathing at all".
"So please," I folded my hands in front of him, my tears flowing freely now. "Don't take away my life from me. For my sake" my voice broke "and his, please, stay away from us. From this moment onwards", I took a deep breath and whipped my tears away, looking at him with determination. "From this moment on, we do not know each other. We were strangers, are strangers, and will forever be strangers for each other. Okay?"
Silence was all I got for an answer. He was staring at me in a way which made me feel as if he was scrutinizing me, searching for a trace of lie on my face.
"Hope we are clear now. Do not come near me or my son, or contact me ever again".
And with that, I turned on my heels, stepped over the dead body lying still on the ground in a pool of his own blood, and walked away from there as the first rays of the morning sun crept in through the broken creaks of the window panes, leaving him standing there alone. Forever.
